Will agree to disagree. For some reason he keeps getting hired by good coaches and good programs that end up having some of their better seasons with offenses that can move the ball well using the talent on their rosters while the players keep getting developed well and drafted. I personally consider that to be a huge asset, that your OC has a diverse background and can find different ways of getting a job done. You are right - he doesn't demand authority. He's a plow horse instead of a show pony. He does his job and lets the HC take the credit.

Looking at that, one could say he was actually very limited in his overall input or for ever having “his offense”. The fact that the offense drastically changed at Tennessee under different head coaches is a dead give away that he is basically never running the show.

I’m not sure if you were just being sarcastic, but our offense under Dooley was not an air raid offense. We threw the ball a lot, but it was mostly because we never had an OL or backs that were good at establishing the run. That doesn’t make it an air raid offense, though.

You don’t give any credit to dooley for the offense here, fine it was all Chaney.

Was it all Chaney when his offense was just so so at Arkansas or at times at Georgia? You can’t have it both ways great coordinators leave their mark on a certain side of the ball. You can’t say that for Chaney because you don’t even know what his mark is.

The thing is that his last few stops haven’t been “night and day different” schematically, though. Just different in their tendencies.

We had like 4 NfL caliber OL here. Don’t tell me our OL wasn’t good enough at any thing. Teams with far less talent up front run the hall. We just didn’t want to run it.

The Vols had essentially the same offensive line in 2013 as they did in 2012 and they had far greater success running the ball in 2013. Hank Hill is right on this. They just didn't care about running under Dooley, especially in 2012

Vern was so bad during his broadcasts. Every time I watch the Florida game, he takes 20 minutes to roll into a joke referencing people from the 70’s that 80% of his audience don’t know.

Yeah. I just look at what each team is bringing to the game. We will be a decided underdog in all those, probably against UF as well. I could go d4H and call 15-0, but I like being right.

lol c’mon hank you’re better than this. Just because it inconveniences an argument you’re making doesn’t mean it’s not trueb Chaney’s OLs here were never very good run blocking. Hell, they weren’t considered very good period until that last season they were here in 2012. Don’t you remember the Montana game in 2011 when we could barely get the run game going? Those kind of performances happened way too much from that OL.


Just because they had a lot of draft picks doesn’t automatically mean they were all good run blockers. That’s very flawed logic.

Because an extra year of experience counts for nothing, apparently.


Go back and watch the games they played in and you’ll see that we never did a great job run blocking under Dooley any year. Those OLs were great at pass blocking, and just ok run blocking.


Also, FTR the 2013 game only had about 50 more rushing attempts and only averaged .3 more rushing yards per attempt. They weren’t that much better at run blocking.

FTR I’m not trying to say the 2012 squad was terrible run blockers. Just that if you look at that squad on offense and want to cater your team to their strengths, there’s no way a good coach comes away thinking emphasizing the run and playing ball control is the way to go.


Just like no OC would look at those Arky offenses Chaney had and come away thinking they needed to air it out as much as possible to have success.

I don't think Dools is meant for anything above a position coach. Not to get down on position coaches. They are very important. It's just some people don't have the personality for larger responsibilty.
