Kids don't have to be that big or strong to get an injury from their heads colliding into one another, though.

Sure, they can still get hurt, but the skull protects the brain. The normal kid in pee wee football isn’t hitting with enough force to continually cause head injuries. Again, I would like to see examples of adults with issues from only playing pee wee football.

Soccer and baseball cause just as much, if not, more injuries in youth games. It’s one reason why the girls had to ban heading until a certain age.

I think more of anything is their head hitting ground, especially when you are playing on artificial turf. Knoxville is already seen an uptick in concussions and major lower extremity injuries since most high schools switched to artificial. That stuff is deadly dude.

That’s high school. Any pee wee league who plays on artificial turf should be ashamed. I would be very surprised if many did.

Was he a coward, or did he refuse to fight for a cause he didn't believe in? I don't know, I go back and forth on it, that war was a mess all the way around, I used to believe that people who refused to go were cowards, but over time I have become more understanding of those who wouldn't. It was not like World War II.

Anyway all that has nothing to do with how great he was in the ring. I don't think much of Ali the man.

Ali was a great boxer, great control of the ring. Fast as a light weight, powerful as a heavy weight. Chin of stone. Now for his refusal to serve. He turned muslim just as he was to be called up. Said muslims didn't believe in violence. Boxing is fairly violent, I've done a little, you can get hurt in there. I guess you had to be there to appreciate what it meant to those who would have liked not to go, but didn't have the means to push back. Thanks to that generation, patriotism is something many lack. Ali was a "pioneer" of activism. I think he would probably would've called himself a patriot, I would not.

Boys I have loved football my whole life but I might have to give up following.

You guys are talking about being old and worn out. I’m 48 and already had shoulder reconstruction and now I’m having knee replacement. I went for a some kind of EEG yesterday and now going to have an MRI on my brain. Having memory loss.

Drs say it’s all of the concussions I had in my 17 years of football. I love it and love following. It’s just now thinking that most of these kids will be going through what I have been because of the game makes it hard.

I want to follow and I want to go to the games, but now I want to go tell them to just stop while you can.

Very very very very few kids are going to play 17 years.

I have a 10yr old who has played football for 4 yrs now. Last year was the first yr he EVER played on a field with natural grass. Crazy how times have changed.

If you had had the means, would you have fought it like Ali did?

I keep hearing that concussions and CTE are going to take down football.

And then I see an article about $10M renovations or a $6M Texas high school stadium.

It's quite the juxtaposition that has my mind (prioritizing player safety) clashing with my heart (true love for the sport, as flawed as it is).

It's weird looking back at some older highlights and seeing how brutal some of the hits were and how crowds celebrated.. until we get into Neyland this September and Nigel Warrior teaches some poor WR not to cross the middle. The game has cleaned up some, but it will always be inherently violent and risky..

Some of the older heads in here-- what was the downfall of boxing? Was it money? Was it the risk to fighters? Was it replaced by stuff like pro wrestling and MMA? (I'm asking as a 29 year old who's never really heard more than the basic Ali/Foreman/Tyson/Leonard/Lewis names.. those are the only five I can muster)

Most all of the older fighters would be perfect examples of CTE. They called it different names, but their cages got rattled so much there wasn't much gray matter that worked right. IMO what ruined it was the money and fight fixing. Add in that younger generations moved on from Friday Night Fights on the old black and white TV or radio. Too many other sports and entertainment offerings to stay interested in boxing as the ability to see them grew.

Yea, I can’t deny that playing football at any age is “good” for you. As the article states, there are issues with the study. But, I would just like to know if there are any adults who have suffered any mental issues from just playing youth football. The vast majority, if not all, of the issues are coming when men are hitting each other a thousand times a year.

Tackle? I know most really young leagues are just flag. I still wouldn’t let flag leagues play on artificial turf. Our local league plays in the outfields of the baseball fields, and there may be one or two true grass football fields.

A friend just shared an old photo from me in Spring of 2001 in Thailand on Facebook. I don't even remember this. That said, I'm gonna call it a cobra, and I'm retroactively claiming the Florida win in the swamp when Travis Stephens went off.

Go Vols.

Sorry my brother. It’s a great game and played for 10 years and dealing with a few things but not like you are. Pushing my son not to play gently. Prayers. VFL sir.

Eli Wolf.....

Some positive buzz about him earlier this spring. His efforts were cited as to why he was selected to speak during the media days.

Obviously we're all excited about DWA and what he can do, but I'm wondering how good Eli can be. Am I being too optimistic to think he can have a better year, statistically, than any individual season his older brother put up here?

Hopefully catches better than Ethan, no offense... but true

Hopefully he's put on enough weight to be effective as an in-line TE. He might not get enough snaps to eclipse his brother if he's limited to a split out role in the offense

Ethan Wolf never had more than 24 catches (sr), 301 yards (so) or 3 tds (sr). Those totals shouldn't be too hard to reach. Though he was remarkably consistent. He never had less than 21 catches (jr), 212 yards (fr) and other than his freshman year (zero) less than 2 tds. And he never played less than 10 games in a season. Which makes him one of the few players to survive the injury plague mostly in tact. They say the best strength you can have is availability.

Ethan was poorly developed and used. He should have been better than he was.

I think his weight has always been his biggest issue. Looked more like a large WR than a TE (I’m hoping/thinking Fitz can do something about that)

Saw a pic of DWA standing next to Peyton yesterday. Dude already looks like an NFL TE, he’s massive.
