7 wins was underachieving. Y’all may have a point at 10 but 7 was no doubt underachieving. Didn’t play over our heads to get those 7 wins. Keep it real.

Most people still think he is a great head coach. He has a track record of being a total f up.

He was sorry in college. Got fired by his own son.

He was over the hill. When you pronounced the verdict on the man.."Sorry DC"..you didn't specify any time..you just called him sorry. I know he wasn't good in college this last go around, but I already said why imo he failed.

Monte Kiffin was a great DC that built great defenses. Don't leave that part out.

I don't think he overachieved, but I don't think he underachieved much either. He was just...meh.

Don't forget the 260lb Sullins twins starting on the OL that year.

We also had a 257lb DT that had like 11 knee surgeries. Reveiz at MLB. Art Evans and Anthony Evans at CB.

That was a 5-6 win roster. Media had us at 4th in the East preseason, finished T-2nd

Not saying Kiffin was great. At all. But to be fair, we had 2 walk-ons starting on OL and a walk on at MLB. We had pros in spots, but some units like DE, LB, DB (outside of Berry), and OL were barely D1 caliber. Va Tech's experienced DL was able to expose our weak OL that had overachieved up to that point. We didn't have anyone in the defensive back 7 outside of Berry that could even come close to catching McCluster, and Ole Miss was able to expose that. And the UCLA was before Kiffin/Chaney were able to bring the best out of Crompton.

Yeah, I meant on top of all the other roster deficiencies already named.

We were supposed to get curbstomped in the Swamp that year, too. Not to call it a moral victory, but it would have been kinda devastating to go in and get murdered like what they did to Kentucky, Georgia, and FSU.

Edit: maybe not "devastating" but still everyone was expecting an absolute bloodbath after the Nukeese Richardson recruitment.

The fact Eric Berry doesn’t hold our interception and return yardage record is something I never forgave the Kiffin’s for. Damn disgrace.

Should have had it against Memphis, but they ruled it a ripped fumble from the WR instead of an INT. It was storming here, and my TV was cutting out right at that time. I was kind of pissed at that particular moment in time.

Not a 10-win team, but the dude got outcoached by Rick Neuheisel, Gene Chizik, and Houston Nutt.

I don’t disagree but I wasn’t talking about whether or not Kiffin is/was a good coach. I was referring to the talent level on that team. Not 10 win level is all I’m saying.

Dennis Rogan was a CB and a very good one.

The thing about that team is that it had pros at different positions across the field. I understand there were were weaknesses. But there were pros on the OL, WR, TE, DL, and an all Pro safety along with a RB who got drafted.

I don't think it was a 5-6 win roster but wasn't 10 either. Should have beaten UCLA but then beat UGA. UGA and South Carolina did not have great teams that year. I give Kiffin all of the credit for the development of Crompton. We could have been worse if Crompton doesn't develop.

Fired Fulmer after 6th loss in 2008.

Pretend Kiffin overachieved with 6 losses the next season.

Makes sense.

Ziti, you're really not this simple, are you?

Fulmer was starting to slow down with a disappointing 2005 season.

When we lost our shirts to Florida in 2007, the groans were loudest.

It was losing to Wyoming in 2008 that was Fulmer's final straw as HC.

You can't equate a 5-7 2008 where it looked like the game passed Fulmer by with a 7-6 2009 with the fresh blood in the nu-SEC.

Fulmer was fired before the Wyoming game. The Wyoming game was the first game after he’d gotten the ax.

Fulmer was fired before Wyoming. I’m not saying Fulmer shouldn’t have been fired. I’m saying Kiffin underachieved. People defend that turd who wrecked our program for some reason. Won’t even look at the 2009 season realistically.

Comical from someone saying that's a 9-10 win team. Talk about unrealistic.

The question wasn't whether or not Kiffin wrecked our program. It was whether or not he over- or underachieved on the field in 2009.

Obviously with the character of recruits he brought in, half of them being dismissed within a year, and leaving in the middle of the night, with our only option being a panic-hire, Kiffin screwed us royally.

But with that roster basically consisting of just a quality secondary and running back group and receiver corps, while he turned Crompton into a draft pick, results-wise, he got the job done.

UCLA was ugly. Ohio scored way more than they should have. Legend has it that McCluster is still running to this day. All first-year HC's have those. But he got us to 7 wins, with a couple really dang good ones against Georgia and Carolina, and almost upset Bama in Tuscaloosa. You can't look at those and say the guy sucked.

Yeah, we are the ones not looking at that 2009 team realistically

2012 was the best team in the last decade on papers as 9-10 win team. HANDS DOWN. Our defense was just trash.

I'm sure its already been covered, but werent we starting walk-on olinemen that year? Not to mention turning Crompton into an actual SEC QB...
