Honestly it would kinda tickle me to see him end up at a lower tier P5 team and have just enough success to frustrate the hell out of one or two top/mid tier teams each season.

But yeah, I hope he poisons Bama while he’s there, hey can’t ever recover, and it drives Saban into a viscous downward spiral that taints his legacy forever.

Sadly, he won't get the chance to become a weapon of mass destruction at Bama like he was at UT. Saban's going to stick him in a room watching film and analyzing stats. He may even get to prepare reports the real coaches will read.

Listening to Hubbs last week and he was asked about Butch’s classes being overrated. He said some of it was missing and some was kids just not panning out. Then he said you can’t blame UT for taking a kid everyone wanted and then the kid not panning out. But then Hubbs mentioned that a new thing we are seeing in recruiting is these kids are going out and getting uncommitable offers to up their profile/ranking. Hubbs made it seem like we ended up with several kids like that. Yeah that had good offers but most were not firm offers.

that also gives credence to the notion that Butch was really good at the low hanging fruit. i'm not sure how much real effort was placed in recruiting for that really high level guy. be it fit to his system or an unwillingness to appear to 'lose'.

it's not debatable that he was one that would take on projects, take a higher rated injury risk...

you can tell there's a difference in the type of player this staff prefers over the last. even the mid/lower rated players we offer are generally bigger/longer athletes, who look more 'built' like typical SEC players.

no one thought Eugene could contribute either. and we now know that not to be the case....you just need one good inside guy......:)

Starting to think his biggest fault in recruiting was he started taking too many guys with decent rankings but didn’t have the size required for this league. Guys that would have bes great at Cincinnati but just doesn’t translate to this conference.

oh, that's definitely where i was going with it. agreed.

I’m so glad we didn’t end up with Mullen

i mean it's still early for them too, and we won't really know for a little while, but like i said, if that had happened here....ouch. new boss same as the old boss is what i'd get out of that. definitely wouldn't give me the warm fuzzies.

i soooooo hope he turns out to be a complete dud. and in my view, that's a good start...

Moore head is one of the most highly respected offensive minds in all of CFB. He saved James Franklins job at PSU.

He is one of the innovators or RPO heavy offense. Fieldman did a fantastic segment on him on his podcast aka while back when he was at Fordham.

Change a couple of words, and it sounds like a certain defensive coach we're familiar with.

I know we give them grief sometimes but some good stuff from Ainge this morning on what to take and what not to take from spring practice scrimmages. He told a story about how Chief and Cut used to get into it all the time because of course if you are sending blitzes in a practice or something the RB is not going to go low and chop a LB or an OL is not going to cut a DL for some of the quick game work so the defense is already at an advantage in the practices. He said the OL obviously needs work and the DL will be good but its not as bad as it seems for one unit or as good for the other. He said Cut used to always start yelling at Chavis to stop blitzing because they weren't going to start blocking them how they would in a game so it was pointless but that Chavis never stopped and so Cut would start having guys block like a game situation which led to of course a fight or something lol. The main point is nobody is going to be chopping Tuttle or Kirkland cause you don't want to injure your own guys so the OL is a little hamstrung right now. He did say that he thought JG has looked good and is making good decisions out there right now.

at best, it's too early to tell one way or the other.

Not really.. plenty of history to base off that thinking. It's too early to form a high level Of confidence in all these new coaches that haven't won at the sec level before but not him imo

i don't see how that's different from what i said?

Mullen has the highest floor of all the legit candidates we had a shot at.

He's not a sure thing at Florida though. Some guys just can't make the adjustment to the big time and results don't always translate like fans project. Florida won't settle for what he did at MSU. He very well could go 8-4 or worse for 3 years and get fired. Just never know. Not many sure things in college football coaching.

He may do fine but he doesn't scare me like a Chip Kelly hire would have.

I don’t like him. He’s a goofball. Better coach than butch, but I wouldn’t want him. I’m not sure he’s the elite coach the media makes him out to be either. Guess we’ll see. I like Pruitt and the staff he’s assembled.

He has enough a history to go by at this level

Others don't

it's still relative. he's been a head coach at MSU, and didn't win anything.

butch jones was a coach at CMU and CIN and won conf titles.

everything's relative, not transitive.
