Me and my thoughts on Pruitt and Co. for this year:

That last sentence should tell people something IMO. We have people thinking our talent level is in the 8-10 win range. It's not. Doesn't matter how well this team is coached, I don't see how anyone could realistically think we have a good shot of winning more than 7.

A bowl would be great.

Haha nice metaphor. I think instead of first year student though, Pruitt is more of a first year after graduating from medical school though. He's had over 10 years of extensive schooling from some of the best teachers and graduated with high honors, but this is his first year with his own practice. There will likely be growing pains, but when it comes to "medical" knowledge he seems to really know his stuff. :lolabove:

That's a good way to put it I think. Pruitt seems to have a confidence about himself that we haven't truly had in a head coach since Kiffin. Jones knew deep down he couldn't swing it and Dooley probably didn't care. Don't think Pruitt will get shook very easily.

You have no idea how much I hope you are right. I will be so happy to be proven wrong. But I am being honest with myself and you guys about it.

Oh I think we are gonna be pretty rough. I have no faith in our LOS but you talk about this roster like all 85 are dog crap players and have had their legs amputated since we signed them.

UT's in a tough spot. Fans are tired of being patient and want Tennessee to be back. We're not back and nobody knows how long it'll take. Fulmer is going to give Pruitt time-- more time than many would like. Everybody's sick of hearing "it's a process" and "enjoy the ride" while getting smacked around by our rivals and watching programs that used to be sure wins beat us year after year. UT fans have hung in longer than any other fanbase would've... but now it's wait and see time. There are no guarantees-- just hope.

I think we're looking at about a 3 year time period from a standpoint of being able to really compete with the big dogs. That's not to say we won't have a pretty solid squad in 2019 though.

Chance Hall is coming off his third knee surgery in two years and missed his SR season in HS with a torn Achilles. He's a high-potential player who can't stay healthy. Not sure he'll be full-go this year... or ever, really.

That is an exagerration. I do not feel that way. I do feel like a we have a lot of physically gifted guys that have been infected with a seriously crappy attitude that will take more than a few practices and one off-season S&C program to fix

The funny thing is I think most people have pretty much the same number in mind. Most have stated that we probably win 6 or 7 games. Where the argument comes in is some of us think if a couple of things go our way we can win one or two more, while others think if any luck is involved it will be bad luck and cost us games. Other than me and Ron saying 15-0 haha most of the optimistic people aren't really saying any more than 8 or 9 wins. Which isn't even really what should be considered a good season for us. It's not like this team is being put on this crazy pedestal. Hopeful expectations are a halfway decent record. haha. But we've seen the last couple of years that a play or 2 a game has been the difference in 3 or 4 wins a year. So IMO it's not unrealistic to think a better coach could change the outcome of some of those close losses and sneak some extra wins in there.

Might as well forget it

No, I'm on board with Pruitt. I'm just extremely skeptical that he'll turn it around. He's doing and saying all the right things. But, we've been through this before. I do believe CJP is an upgrade from Butch.

I can kinda see that, but it would take all of the joy out of being a fan to me.

It's kinda like this, you're getting ready to have heart surgery. Come to find out the surgeon Is a first year medical student. You are pulling for him to succeed. :)

But you find comfort in knowing that your surgeon was at the top of his class and the number one assistant surgeon on 3 national championship surgeries.

Win now. We need to open strong vs. WVU, beat the cupcakes and win at least four games in the East. That's 7, with upside for more.

See that is where I am different from the other pessimists, I actually believe given time that Pruitt is a good coach that will build something solid to great here.

I am from the generation that saw how long it took Majors to rebuild the UT program from the nuclear ashes of the Battle era. It just doesn't happen overnight..and I think Pruitt is a much better football mind than Majors.

There is no guarantee this offense is going to suck. We are good at RB and WR and could be decent on the OL. Good scheme and surprising QB play and we will score points.

I agree. The coaches can get a lot more out of the offense with better scheme and better coaching in general. Imo we just need the OL to get/stay healthy.

It ain't happening imo, at least not unless a lot of breaks go our way, which they literally never do.

I see beating the cupcakes, UK and Vandy for 5 wins this year. I want to see good fundamental tough football against everybody we play.

I think we can beat WVU, which hinges on the defense stopping them...so that is a really big if.

I think we could beat UF, but we've only pulled that off once in 13 years..so that is really big if.

I do see where some higher win totals could be attainable this season, but that just hinges on too many big ifs for me to see it happening.
