Doesn’t directly effect people. Hard to get people riled up.

I haven’t seen anything about it except from Basilio.

I think you pay attention to this sort of lawmaking news more than 99% of the population. Most don’t pay attention and ain’t got time for that crap unless it directly impacts us.

I get that, but the reality is that most people don’t follow things like that very closely. When the news reports that they are trying to pass a FOCUS bill, it doesn’t register with citizens just how it would affect the University athletics. What about the way it’s being presented would raise a red flag to your average citizen? People don’t research and study every bill that passes through.

Well, I certainly don't track proposed or pending legislation, but I do make an effort to keep up with issues that I care about or that affect my interests. Most of the headlines have centered on FOCUS reducing voting membership in the BOT. And journalists, broadcasters and bloggers have all mentioned that the governor will appoint the majority of the voting members. Even if people are too (insert whatever adjective you want here) to connect the dots, others have been connecting them in the media. There have even been protests on campus-- and that has been headlined.

But your comments underscore why some people rule and others get ruled. It has worked that way for centuries and it still works today.

Literally have not seen anything outside of Basilio covering it. Idk what you’re reading/watching. But admittedly I don’t keep up with state news. Don’t care enough about it as it typically doesn’t impact me at all.

Free read. Interesting role for Lilly.

Tennessee Vols football: Jeremy Pruitt explains John Lilly's role on Tennessee's staff

"The first thing John does is he's here to help me," Pruitt said. "I think it's clear that I want to be involved on the defensive side from a daily organization standpoint, but at the same time, we're not going to do anything our program that I'm not aware about, that it don't go through me.

"Now, what I don't want to do is come in there and ask the offensive staff a million questions. 'Why you doing this? Why you doing that?' You've got a guy that can explain to me a little bit about what's going on, so I can eliminate some of the questions."

Jeremy Pruitt: New defense not new world for Tennessee Vols football's edge rushers

As Pruitt put it, players like junior-to-be Darrell Taylor, sophomore-to-be Deandre Johnson and redshirt-freshman-to-be Ryan Thaxton are still playing more or less the same position they’ve played in the past. Technically they’ve moved from defensive end to outside linebacker, but their main job — getting after the quarterback as an edge rusher — haven’t changed.

“I mean, the first thing we’re looking for in an outside linebacker is we’re looking for a guy to rush the quarterback, aight,” Pruitt said. “I could teach you to play first to the flat, you know what I’m saying? I mean, take the guy first to the flat. We’re looking for guys who can get after the quarterback. That’s what we’re looking for in our edge rushers, whether it’s an outside backer, 4-3 [defensive end], whatever it is.

“We’re looking for guys to rush the quarterback.”

With all that was done to block the Schiano hire, weaken Haslam and get Fulmer into place as AD- including state legislators who were involved- why would those same people just sit back and allow this bill to happen?

It's a fait accompli now, anyway.

I could write the script for how this will play out-- even cast it-- but who'd want to watch that movie?

Pruitt on getting advice from Fulmer

Jeremy Pruitt leaning on AD Phillip Fulmer for some advice in first few months at Tennessee

“When you need something he’s there for you,” Pruitt said. “When you start saying ‘hey’, we need a certain amount of weights in the weight room, whether you need extra practice equipment or anything like that, he gets it, he understands it and it has helped us in this transition.”

“We talk a lot,” Pruitt said. “He’s come to a couple practices. Every chance I get I’m going to ask his opinion on things because I don’t think it would be very smart on my part not to ask him. He’s been here, he’s done it and it’s good to get information from other folks.”

Anybody in the 615 hearing Hugh Freeze going to be the next head coach for Ensworth High School? Or is that just rumors?
