Apathy could be a reality UNLESS this team looks good on the field then we will continue to pour our hearts into it and the CJP will have something to sell. The big point I was trying to make is we really don't know how good this staff will be at recruiting to a 4-8 program. It is hard to sell a poor product even if you are a good sales person. Just going to wait and see how they look on the grid iron and that is why it will be hard to judge what will happen until some games get played this fall. Like I said in a previous post, they better be really great on the field coaches. I also wish explosive diarrhea on Kirby for today.

Apathy is already setting in. Inevitable, really, after suffering through four coaches in ten years and failed rebuild after failed rebuild. CJP came in at a bad time in the cycle. Tennessee fans are the most loyal in the country, but they're tired of losing, tired of waiting and tired of rebuilds. CJP wants to install a new system and turn the roster. That takes time, patience and great recruiting. Five years ago, the fanbase and donors would have been optimistic and excited. Now, notsomuch. He's in a tough spot-- and so is the program.

Seriously? Did you watch the first game? He got hurt in the second half. Pretty sure it was a bone bruise.

The things being said on this site after the game are mind boggling.

I agree..We have some very large anal orifices for fans. This team is not a team of quitters, I respect and admire their scrappy fortitude. They outplayed expectations this season by a galactic proportion, and anybody criticizing their effort now is a monumental idiot.

I too am disappointed in the loss, but not at the team itself, I wish for their sake that things had went differently.

Why did Kendrick wait until now to lose 25lbs of fat and gain 10lbs of muscle? In addition to our coaching staff sucking, our players severely lacked heart and a competitive desire to be the best they could be. It’s very annoying to me.

After years of watching it, I honestly think a good number of players initially think they are too good for college and that the NFL will be easier on them and will vindicate them. They don’t listen to the coaches, don’t try as hard as they should, don’t put the time into the weight room. Then they get closer and closer to draft time and realize oh crap! Out of the 1000s of eligible players the NFL is only taking a few hundred and I better get my act together if I want to make it.

Not saying Kendrick is one of those but I think there are lot out there (McKhenzie? Wiggins?).

Gaulden is a drop the hammer run support strong safety in my opinion.

I agree and think they told him that in his evals before declaring. He's a tackling machine with great blitz instincts. Which is why you would add muscle and sacrifice a little quickness. Only Butch didn't know what he was and underused him. It's been obvious since HS. To be honest I hope the Titans draft him. They need to develop a runs support S with upside so they can move past Cyprien at some point.

I think this is very, very accurate. That's the risk you take when you roll the dice with lane kiffin, Derek Dooley, Butch Jones, and Jeremy Pruitt.

Short answer - personal immaturity. There was no accountability required by the coaching staff. So it was left to the individual to decide for himself. Guys like Barnett, JRM, Sutton, Dobbs, Kamara, etc. did it for themselves and their future. Others needed a kick in the pants and didn't get it.

I have never posted what I heard Kendrick say under his breath with his position group teammates in an August camp practice I attended two seasons ago. Didn't want posters to run with it. Now it doesn't matter. To paraphrase a less than nice actual comment without the expletives - Oh great, the blocking sled again. These coaches are clueless.

It was the 6th practice in camp. They had already done the sled and other routine drills. They just finished ghost blocking assignments for plays. Butch did not have everything ready to go for the controlled scrimmage portion. Too busy running his foul mouth and playing big dog. So he has the groups that were past ready go do more drills while he finished his pet special teams.

Could've had more to do with the diet plan the staff had them on. I wouldn't think of Kendrick as a person with a bad work ethic.

I feel the exact same way about it..

"You want to commit to a guy that may not be your coach for your four years of school?"

That's a stretch at best. Pruitt will get at least 4 years no matter what. The doom and gloom on Pruitt already setting in around here is ridiculous, good grief. Hasn't even coached a practice yet. Vol "fans" are out of control.

They really are. Some people need to just stop with sports all together.

P.S.: This is not aimed at you, Vol2002

That’s why it is stupid to get mad at him. We’re at rock bottom. So long as it’s obvious the team is improving I don’t care about W/L until year 3 or so. Long road ahead but we can’t let negativity destroy what Pruitt is trying to build

A book could and probably will be written if Pruitt doesn't/can't turn this around, thereby banishing us to the SEC dregs for good.

there's a lot here i agree with. i think it's fair to stay optimistic about the overall future though the immediate future still looks foggy at best.

the reality is butch wasn't getting it done, wasn't going to get it done, and change was made. i think at the point it happened, the vast majority knew that was the deal.....and what starting over with a new staff would mean. so that's where we are.

i don't think anyone saw the s**t storm that would ensue on the search, so that didn't help an already bad situation. at the end of the day, a lot of the core problems that have faced this program the last decade plus have at least been acknowledged, and attempted to be resolved.

i think TN fans, self included, are just gonna have to live with the fact there is no easy fix, it isn't going to come this season, and to get the right change that was needed, it's just going to take a little time. we are not in the same situation GA was in 3 years ago.

now, that timeline can get sped up if recruiting takes off in this cycle, and you build any momentum on the field headed in to next off season.

it's march. very early in the recruiting process, and we've not even started spring practice yet. so i don't think it's really prudent to bail out just yet. see what happens on the field, see what happens in December and February, and go from there. we really won't know where we are with this staff until we see what it looks like 3 years from now. you'll have results, recruits and a pretty good idea of what it could/should like from a roster standpoint by then. for now....all speculation and guesswork.

it sucks. but it is literally what it is at this point. it sucks worse that GA , Bama, Auburn, FL, aTm, USCe all seem to be ahead of the curve....but that can change pretty quick, and this staff didn't come here to be mediocre.

would be nice to have a couple of these big time recruits go ahead and pull the trigger though, and see if that doesn't help get some others that might be on the fence, lean our way down the stretch.

for all the talk of how great the visits are, how great the facilities are, and how great this new staff is, and how everyone is sure things will change under CJP....it still takes getting kids to actually come here than can make that change. and as long as they keep going to other schools, the rest really won't matter.

Good grief this x1,000,000,000

I didn’t say he is toast right now. But I think he will be if he misses a bowl this fall. I think the fanbase is on full checkout mode if he misses a bowl. Not Pruitt’s fault. And may not be fair for him to have that pressure. I just think that’s where we are as a program and athletics department - on the verge of some serious apathy.

Enough hot takes from me today. On jury duty and waiting for my number to be called. Was really here for the pro day updates, so thanks for providing them.

He isn’t going anywhere after one year, bowl game or not. Sheesh.

I think this sums it up nicely. For those guys that aren’t self motivated, even though they SHOULD be, the coaching staff has to push them and hold them accountable. Add to that the players mentally checking out. They just didn’t have the desire to work for that pitiful coaching staff. It cost many of them a shot at the NFL imo.

I know people think we should move on and not bash Butch anymore, but that guy did a massive disservice to the University of Tennessee, it’s players, and fans.

💯💯💯I think we’re going to really like what we see. Might not win a lot in those first two years but year three we could start to see it come together
