Oh yeah that will make it worse. He’ll raise the bar out of the gate beating the Mountaineers and then October will happen.

yeah, that 4 games, even with a bye....man....makes the 2016 gauntlet look tame.

the bad thing about message boards and call in shows, and most of social media, is that everyone with a gripe is ready and willing to "express themselves".

most of the folks that are probably going to exercise patience, undersand the situation, and don't see the need to comment on what should be common sense.

hence what looks like a meltdown with the fan base, when the reality is there's still a pretty big majority that do "get it" for the most part.

all that said, i sure would like to see us win a game (or two prettty please) that we maybe aren't supposed to.

It depends. For me, 6 wins is the mark I’m looking for this season. Player development is the other thing. This team needs to look well put together and competitive. Creative offensive scheming, adjustments, discipline, etc.

We don’t have the horses now, but at least give me a nice pony show with some cotton candy and a bowl game

I think you look at the teams that you are more talented than. I think 6-6 Is reasonable. 6-6 with a bright outlook on recruiting will have people satisfied.

If they take this group to a 7-5 record next year everyone needs to be thrilled. Anything can happen, but given this roster, the schedule, and first year implementations, its very unlikely this team can win more than 7. I think we're looking at 6-6.

there's also still a lot that you can't account for from the coaching standpoint. 1st timers do make mistakes. Kirby made a bunch his first year, several in our game, especially with clock management.

Pruitt will probabaly have things happen that he'll learn from, similarly. not call a time out when he should, mis manage substitutions, go for it or not go go for it when he maybe should....and those are the things that are going to get people around here, cause we've had 5 years of that.

it will beg the question...is it just more of the same, or just growing pains for a 1st timer? i'm going hedge and say the latter.

i think we have a football staff...an SEC football staff. just won't see it all come together next year. and we're going to have to just deal with that.

I think 6-6 is a pretty realistic expectation.

3 OOC wins and 3-5 in the SEC. Very doable with good coaching.

agree. i think the defense may actually be pretty darn good when all is said and done....now it may be one of those things where it's a "they get better as they go" type deals, but i think they have a shot at being good, even with the scheme change. think that may actually help this group, especially in the front 7.

offensively, the interior O line is enough to give you pause and laud a 7-5 effort. not to mention we're still unsure at qb and a couple skill positions. i expect the offense to be a bit behind the defense.

they're probably not changing WR coach at this point.

no idea about where Neidermeyer winds up. i think Weinke is going to be a good addition.

Someone mentioned earlier that they heard if it was Weinke that he would coach TE and Neidermeier would move to RBs.

Didn’t know if that had any truth to it or not.

I really hope the Vols can steal a game they aren't supposed to this year. It would go a long way to building Pruitt some reserves of good will.

I'll just be really intrigued to see what a coaching staff of this caliber can do with this group. It's just hard for me to see much more than 6 wins though. Bama, UGA, Auburn, South Carolina, West Virginia, and Missouri are all better football teams than Tennessee IMO. And no just because Dooley is Missouri's coordinator doesn't mean we'll kick their arse. They're better than us with Locke. I think UF is a tossup at best.

Thanks OB and Dust. He's in Richmond so south east. His daughter keeps fainting and getting sleepier than usual. They are going to get a test done but have to wait 3 weeks. That'll give them an idea if it's serious. Bless em. I prayed every night for you OB when Ashlee was going through her surgeries and I will do the same for Dust.

Hopefully his daughter has at least had a stat echo done. Many conditions have a clock and require emergency surgery. I’ll be including your friend’s daughter in my prayers tonight.

Being able to recruit top rated players is great. Being able break down film and come up with an effective game plan is also great.

But I want to see player development. I want to see 3 stars contribute by their junior year. To see progression.

I think a lot of the "development" we saw under Butch was just a players natural ability coming out in spite of Butch. If you were a super athlete like Barnett, Sutton, or Dobbs the growth was through god given talent and not because of Butchs system.

I'm looking forward to year 2. I want to see these freshmen and Sophomores playing lights out and leaving it all on the field. I want to see them developed physically and intellectually as individuals and as a team.

If Pruitt is the coach we think he is, year 2 should be the year we see the big improvement.

This year should be all about learning the system and development. I'll take 7 wins and say good job coach. If we win more than 7 it's a bonus.

I think there is a very good possibility that this team could start out 4-0. WVU and UF will tough but it can be done. Not gonna beat UGA, Bama, or Auburn. Carolina, Kentucky, and Vandy, and Mizzou will be toss ups. Only for sure win on the back end of the schedule will be Charlotte.

I think the hospital in STL was mentioned by our cardiac surgeon as being one of the 2 or 3 hospitals (including Vandy Children's) that was the best for pediatric cardiology, so I'm sure your son is in excellent hands.

One of the things that helped me was venting on VN. Seriously. It was cathartic. One of the others was speaking to parents with children who had lived through the same thing that we did.

Seriously...I don't know you from Adam but I'm more than happy to be a sounding board if you need one.

Late to this convo, but in Nashville, there is a great group of parents who have a network to support parents and children who are going through these procedures. A lot of great folks around the Vanderbilt Children’s program. I am sure they have something similar in St Louis. As OB said, sharing with others is really helpful. Praying for you and your family.

I'm setting my expectations as such for next year:

Beat the cupcakes: UTEP, ETSU, Charlotte.

Get back to beating Vandy and Kentucky. We still have more talent than both. With Phil back at the helm in the AD office, that should be a baseline.

That's five. I'm hoping for more, and personally, I expect just something more, but looking at the schedule, it means surprising Mizzou, Florida, WVU, Carolina, or the heavy hitters Auburn, Bama and UGA.

Even Butch surprised a ranked team in his first year. We still have talent all over the roster-- just a little weak in numbers, primarily along the lines. That's why I don't expect more than 5 of 6 wins.

lol, yeah, dooley dosn't move the meter for me at all.

i tend to think the same way in regards to the season.

that 4 game stretch is tough, and like you, i think FL at home is a toss up and would be a good one to win to get the CJP era started on the right foot.

the other game that intrigues me is Auburn. Pruitt has been defending those guys for a while. so i just wonder if his predisposition of preparing for that malzahn offense helps us in any way.

i'd call Bama, Auburn and GA L's right now. WVU, FL, USCe, MO toss ups and we should win the rest.

so we'll see how she goes.

Yeah you’re right. It’s hard to sell that heisman and all those years in the pros to recruits.

RG is tremendously more proven as an assistant coach than Weinke is. It's not even close. Weinke may end up being terrific and I hope he is if he comes here, but it is a big risk, IMO.
