That makes it seem like he was a pretty damn good coach then

I think Pittman is overrated but also a good coach. He got too much credit here for an OL that was all-star in talent because he stepped in at the right time. However, he's still a good OL coach.

What I am saying is this: Take a look at Todd Gurley's monster runs when Will Friend was at UGA, only this time look at the giant holes Gurley is running through. They are big enough for you, me, and 3 of our random family members to run through.

Pittman has never produced anything like them, anywhere he's been. Outside of the late 80s and early 90s, these are OL's I've only seen Friend produce. They're the type of OLs you just don't see much of today.

They are a different kind of OL.

So here is my take on why recruiting was a struggle this year.
1...Last seasons results really hurt the image of the program strengthening over the last 3 yeara.
2... Coaching search and late hire gave other programs ammo to paint UT in a bad light, just an overall bad look for the image.
3... Early signing period sort of went different than it was intended. Originally it was thought of as helping kids get the recruiting process. Instead the teams that were able to get as many kids to sign early , they were able to really focus on certain needs. There werent as many quality kids to recruit after the signing period.
4... Maybe Pruitt and Co thought their relationships would bring more recruits like JJ.Naive? Maybe but again they were against the wall after the early signing period.

I am pretty sure we will see a lot better results for 2019, they will have a season of their system to show recruits growth and exactly what they will be doing. They will also be able to recruit as a group for the whole season, and lastly they will know more precisely exactly what they need.

Tidbits from the War Room:

Walt Wells landed an off the field job with Arkansas, leaving Butch and Beard as the only unemployed coaches.

Eddie Smith was a Vol lock two weeks ago and assured the coaching staff. Changed after the Bama visit.

Quay Walker informed Pruitt Wednesday morning. “Mind’s in Tennessee. Heart’s in Georgia”.

Alex Thomson was in communication with the staff but he wanted to sign Wednesday and went with Marshall. Keller Chryst isn’t expected to be an option.

Tyler Byrd has already been moved to DB and is currently in the two deep. Competing with Baylen Buchanan for the spot opposite Shamburger.

But he just had to not play at WR for 2 Years? But he instantly is in the 2 deep at CB? Wow, I loath that last coaching staff. Can’t wait for the future!

Kid's talent was wasted for 2 years, it is unreal. Hope he has 2 great years ahead of him and makes it the league, then calls Butch and simply says "you are a moron, but, I thank you for being such a twat in that you brought me a coach who understands the game and gave me the opportunity to play and earn my new fat paycheck"

The Eddie Smith thing.....we turned away or slow played guys like Johnson and Palmer because this kid gave us his word. I think there was probably more than just one that did this. Pruitt thought we were full because of it. I’m sure he will adjust accordingly next year.

Thank goodness they are moving Byrd to corner! I really think our defense can be good next year.
