Just not true.

If there is a criticism it's Pruitt cleaned house too quickly with the class. Imo he should have kept a few of those guys

I agree with this and I agree with Kristy*. I think Pruitt was going to get all the players he wanted. He's felt what it is to be the bridesmaid when he's so used to being the bride. I think (and hope) this class taught him something and he's going to work even harder and smarter than before.

What exactly would you have had him do differently?

Where in my post did I insinuate he needed to do anything differently? I simply made an observation about how I thought he perceived recruiting at Tennessee and particular this class.

What would you have him do differently?

@volblood

Now that's what I'm talking about.

I wasn't thrilled with the hat throwing and finding out my favorite recruit has a shady background, but considering the whole class, we did aight.

Now, hopefully Pruitt is as a good a coach as some of these players claim he is and we'll be in great shape.

3 of the top 10 players in state.

All of our high priority targets spurning us = us getting our teeth kicked in. Not a good day.

I'm happy he swung for the fences. But IMO, he should have had better backup plans. He's used to recruiting for winning, powerhouse programs, in which he gets the guys he wants for the most part. He underestimated the struggle he would face here I think. Would be my only knock on him.

Good class overall, disappointing day.

Excellent response and I agree. Maybe he could have targeted some slightly lower ranked recruits. Maybe he could have had more backup plans.

Shouldn't matter with the hopefully great recruiting staff UT hired, considering the talent in-state, next year. UT could pull all 25 of their recruits from TN and finish top 10

I think it matters. Other states have had great success luring our top in-state recruits. More and more TN kids grew up loving UT but feel they have more opportunities elsewhere. But I think we can do better than 5-7 or 6-6, so we'll see.

Georgia has a massive talent advantage over us and Florida has a decent one. South Carolina may have a slight one. The rest of the East? We have the better roster. I want us to win those games. UK, Mizzou, Vandy. I want the SCjr game, too. Get to 7-5 or bowl eligible and we’ll be fine for the ‘19 class.

Eh, early signing period is going to be tough on bad teams transitioning coaches. I'd hoped we'd do better than we did, because UF was in a similar spot and did OK, but we should have all been prepared for a rough day. We overachieve on the field next year (7-8 wins) and we should be in a good spot to land a good class. Going to be a hard 2 or 3 years getting our teeth kicked in by Uga till we get back up and running though.

I think 6-6 Will be the floor. Haven't decided on the ceiling yet.

The floor is 4-8. Even if Pruitt is our savior, he can't turn around a losing program and culture in one year. He can get us to more wins if he's good, but until proven otherwise our floor is our record last year.

Took the very rare step of just skipping the last 13 pages of this thread because I know most of it is going to be griping...

But WOW! We literally did miss on every single big target.

2019 should be much better though.

The ceiling would be 10-2, you’d think. It ain’t happening, but that’s it. Bama and UGA are definite L’s. Auburn is so unpredictable year to year, so who knows. I think it’s in Jordan-Hare, so that’s probably an L. Now you’re at 9-3. The rest are winnable in theory. Florida because it’s at home is Pruitt’s biggest chance for a significant win.

There's more talent in Florida than Georgia. Let's see UGA actually get these guys on the field without getting arrested and coach them up. We're Tennessee, they're South Carolina. There's never an excuse for them to beat us.

No reason why we shouldn't beat UF and Scar next year.

Thats the crazy thing about the SEC. A top 15-20 class is still only good enough for 6 or 7th best. Won't cut it at all when playing our schedule in particular.

Top 10 classes are a must.

Top ten classes at the very least have to be a given. Need to be cracking the top 5 a lot of years.
