I got the opposite take when I lived in Arizona. The Najaho and Tohono Odham I know arent fans of Native American mascots. But, then again, most of my friends were other academics, so take it for what you will.

The smartest way around this would be for teams to ask Native artists to redo their mascots. A Native artists redid the Chicago Blackhawks mascot and it looked way better than the original. There’s a middle ground there that’s worth pursuing.
No offense Riot but many in academia have their heads so far up their own you know what's that they think they see the sun when they open their mouths

I know the prevailing thought is that Hubbs and Co. are not as connected with this staff, but have they put out a “who we think UT finishes with” list?

Whether or not they are connected with the staff isn’t significant IMO. Hubbs has great sources. He wasn’t getting all his info from Butch Jones.

The deal is we are recruiting kids who are holding off til signing day and taking visits all the way up to the end. There’s more unknown and more drama.

Hubbs knows the game. Be wise to pay attention to him.

Could someone explain to me why there are so many annoying rival fans posting in the recruiting forum? I get it's always fun to talk trash to friends of rival teams, it's what guys do. But wtf is the deal with visiting a rival teams forum and accumulating hundreds to thousands of posts, trying to convince us that we're not getting this guy, or that guy.

Especially TrollingPrincess. We're not even a rival. Why do you live here, lady? We get it... you have insider info and neither guy will be a Vol. :good!:

For the love of God, find another hobby please.

Assuming you aren't Native American, of course it seems innocuous to you; it's not insulting to your heritage. Hot take - racially charged mascots simply shouldn't exist. Pick an animal and be done with it.

If you're concerned with Orwellian tendencies in this world, your last problem is people asking other people to just be nice. Maybe let's examine mass surveillance of the American people before you worry about mascots.

I think portrayal and intent matter in regards to Native American mascots. A good litmus test might be to assess whether the mascot is some cartoony caricature or a respectful homage to the original inhabitants of the region associated with the team.

Similarly, but almost conversely, I feel like portrayal and intent should also be considered in regards to Confederate statues. An homage to an individual that fought and/or died for the right to own other people deserves strong aversion. However, if the portrayal and intent is simply to mark history, I think it would be important for it to stay because I believe all sides of the issue would agree that the events referenced should not be forgotten.

I hadn't heard that about the Blackhawks. Sounds like the right approach.

You don't think whiffs like yesterday's report of us moving on from Emmett Gooden and him not being an option, to him visiting today or Simonton saying we're not really recruiting ITS anymore and he won't get a visit, to just a few hours later Terry Fair being in his living room and his family coming with him for an OV this weekend being a solid indication that maybe they're not that plugged in?

FTR, Personally, I couldn't care less about kneeling during the NA. I'm a libertarian...I think people can do whatever they want as long as they don't harm others. Legislating morality is stupid.

Yep, I agree. And some fans can decide to not go to or watch games because of the kneeling. That's how a free society should work.

Sounds to me like we weren’t gonna give Gooden a spot because he’s an academic risk. He wants to be here bad enough he’s willing to come on an unofficial so that he can relieve UT of the risk of losing his spot.

ITS has long been a long shot. Our chances with OG went down and our recruitment of ITS heated up. Not surprising really.

You’re confusing fluidity with Hubbs being out of the loop.

Hubbs is always the best source. Just like the coaching search when people were questioning him. Undisputed champ.

Ok so I guess no list then

I'm sure you're really proud of your son, Mrs. Hubbs... but he seems a bit out of the loop since the coaching change.

Don't be a dick. What he said is correct. Recruiting is fluid and with Pruitt swinging for the fences with the best of the best there will be more ups and downs, naturally. Sure, Hubbs (and all of the local guys) will take some time to build relationships with the new staff and have better info. But he's still #1.

Some of you folks need to take a step back and really think about how recruiting works and stop trying to find someone to blame when you get upset at how things change. It's recruiting folks, news alert...things change daily. ESPECIALLY when recruiting kids that are wanted by the best programs in the country.

People definitely need to realize that recruiting is always fluid. There are no locks, and it would be good if everyone would recognize that before they bash some reporter or "insider."

I have always felt that Hubbs and co. are the best in the business. That said, he took some hits in losing Fortenberry and Brice, and Callahan has been giving him a run for his money the last couple of years in terms of accuracy.

I'm a liberal college professor that maintains close friendships with the conservative guys I grew up with. Sometimes we find consensus. Sometimes we agree to disagree.

And, no matter what our political persuasions, we all f@#$ing hate the Gators and the Tide.

....and the services that report on it make money by keeping your interest........hence the roller coaster....no one clicks if nothing ever changes.....

not saying that's a bad thing, just that it is what it is.

I get the early impression that Simonton couldn't hold Fortenberry's notepad.

Sometimes I really wonder if you are literally Ron Swanson.

I have an account to both sites and both sites writers have said numerous times these kids aren’t talking to anyone, so everyone is guessing. Hubbs said it again today. He said this maybe the craziest signing day they have ever covered.

Maybe some sites but I can guarantee you Brent Hubbs doesn't create drama for clicks. I know that's hard to believe for some of you but it's true.
