Ok VN brethren I could use some diet/workout advice:

I’m looking to drop 35-40 lbs. This time last year I was down to 199 but I’ve added about 35 pounds of bad weight since. I’m 6’3”, 27, and fairly athletic. Just poor diet has led to this. I enjoy working out but hate cardio (I’ll do it if necessary). Don’t have to drop it fast but want to keep it off. I’ve gained and lost weight in a vicious cycle the past few years. I just mostly have a poor diet and not much self discipline. I’ve heard of things like keto and other diets. Anyone had good success with anything?

And go...

I’ve lost 20 lbs since January doing keto. All I really eat is ground beef, eggs, bacon, steak, cheese, & peanut butter.

I make a lot of keto pizzas with just pepperonis, mozzarella, a spoon or two of the lowest carb pizza sauce I can find & put it on Flat Out flatbread..it’s a lifesaver. Also Mission low carb tortillas.

Edit: listen to Nick. He knows what he’s talking about.

:eek:lol: 6’3” 235? I’m 5’10” @ 220. Turn it into muscle.
I stay in the gym 5 days a week and consume copious amounts of whey protein.

While we're on the topic... I'm finishing up a 5x5 lifting program and am ready to move on to the next thing... anyone have a program they enjoyed?

I'm really into Reverse Pyramid Training right now. Where you build up to a heavy first set and do as many reps as possible and decrease the weight on the next two sets and do the same thing.

You can read up more about it here. This website is pretty dope in general. The Reverse Pyramid Training Guide — Leangains

It's pretty intense. But I wanted to focus on the big lifts again after expiramenting with CrossFit for awhile. CrossFit can be cool. But sometimes it can be a bunch of nonsense. I learned some cool stuff but eventually got tired of it and finally quit and have been having a lot of fun with this program ever since.

Everything is simplified and I'm getting stronger every day.

I also really liked the Greyskull LP and did that for awhile with pretty good success.

Anything will work if you just stick with it tho.

I ran a 5x3x1 program for a while and really enjoyed it. 4 days a week with each day centered around a core lift(bench, squat, deadlift, military press) and then you can basically rotate accessories in as you please. It kept it from being stale and I saw pretty good strength increases

Is a protein shake a reasonable/efficient breakfast? If so does anyone recommend a certain type of protein?

Not the best, due to lack of fullness. Also, whey is assimilated within about 30 minutes. A milk protein powder is better, if convenience is what you are looking for. They sure taste good, and I have one in the morning with peanut butter (not losing weight now)

Myprotein.com is tops in purity and cost. Wait for a crazy deal like 49% off
