Recruiting Forum Football Talk LIII

Anyone in here on mobile having the issue of pages opening in a new tab? I know a couple people had the issue and I’m trying to figure out how widespread it is.

Thanks. :hi:

Happens to me every so often. Maybe once every 10-15 times I try to click on a thread.

Fulmer saved us big time.

He really did. In no way, shape or form would he had been a fit here. He's goofy, can't recruit, and I don't see that offense being successful against the big dogs.

I can’t believe people don’t understand this.

Yes, we have championship expectations at Tennessee, but if you can’t objectively understand that some seasons you are not going to get there and need to adjust realistic expectations... well, I don’t know

Who has unrealistic expectations? Most people I’ve seen make a prediction have said 6-6. A few have mentioned an 8 or 9 win CEILING if everything goes perfectly. Doesn’t mean they are predicting or expecting 8-9 wins.

We aren't super deep but I think we have some nice pieces on defense to make a big time jump on that side of the ball.

The defensive line has a strong core with some untapped potential. We'll need some depth to emerge but Kahlil/Tuttle/Taylor/Phillips/Kongbo all have a chance at the next level. We need them to all play meaner and get more disruptive. But there is a lot to like in this group. They've flashed at times, but we need to see more. Maybe Pruitt can flip the light on for these guys.

LBers could make a huge jump in production with Kirkland back and healthy. Jumper held it down as well as could be expected but he should have never been in as involved as he was last year. Getting an SEC caliber talent at his spot will make us much better all around. Kirk, Bituli and Sapp could all be elite LB's in this conference imo. We need depth to emerge here as well but there's a lot to like about the core. Hopefully we close with JJ Peterson here... I like our chances. That would make me feel better with the uncertainty surrounding Kirkland. JJ looks awesome and physically ready to play.

Safeties are in good shape with Warrior/TKjr. Gaulden could help here for sure if he stays, but he might be at corner. Wonder where Abernathy ends up as well. I would like to see him and Gaulden both at corner personally. Maybe we see a guy like Maleik Gray or Theo Jackson emerge here too. We need depth to emerge big time this season because we are likely losing most of our safeties after next year. Warrior will leave early after a huge season coming up imo.

Corner is my biggest concern for next year. A core of Gaulden/Abernathy/Shamburger/Byrd/Buchanan/Osbourne could be good. But we don't know much about this group. I think this is where we need the most help with this incoming class. If we can get one or both of the elite Cali CB's we might be in business. I could see either of those guys coming in and earning a job quick, especially if Gaulden leaves. Maybe a JUCO guy helps here. But that's risky to count on for sure.

I think the biggest boost will be having a coach that uses his personnel more wisely. We need our best players on the field. If you can't be trusted you shouldn't be on the field (cough Justin Martin cough) Our corners have been so bad. I'm not sad to see many of the veteran guys move on. Although it may take a couple years to get it how Pruitt wants, there should be an opportunity for improvement right away. Those young talented corners really have a shot to come in and play day 1 if they come here imo. Competition is wide open.

There is a path to enormous improvement. Not sure how many wins that will amount to. But I'm so excited to see how this defense comes together either way. I think we are headed towards some really fun seasons on this side of the ball. Pruitt is really aggressive on defense. It's gonna be wild and risky and fun. Hopefully we can create way more turnovers. We haven't been great at that the last few years. Ready to see these Vols wreak havoc.

yes. when the page blinks, a click on a thread will open a new tab.

I see John Kelly and think what could have been. He was only the lead back one season, for a terrible team. Wish he had stayed, but my guess is Helton and Pruitt didn’t push hard for him to stay. Good luck Jelly. Hope you have a Kamara like impact.

No one seemed to think it was stupid until now. I will let it go. You do have to hit in practice to get used to physicality. It is not a realistic football scenario, but it was designed to motivate the team and develop some physicality. Obviously, if we had more concussions because of it, then it was not the right thing to do.

I don’t know if it’s a useful drill at that level or not but I loved it when I played.

I don’t really see how it would cause more concussions than any other hitting that goes on though??

Alabama, Georgia, and Auburn are as close to sure losses as you can get.

I would put West Virginia, Florida, and South Carolina as favorites over Tennessee.

That leaves very little room for error if we want to make a bowl game.

I think we probably have more talent than WVU and as much or more than UF and USCe. Those games are toss ups to me.
