Recruiting Forum Football Talk LIII

Great stuff Riot. Dudes over on CFBreddit would like to see that I'm sure. Although I can't stand that subreddit

Much appreciated. I'm always leery about posting over there because it seems like they don't like people posting original content or something if you're not a regular participant.

I might give it a go anyways.

Hubbs says Vic Viloria is a name to watch with the strength & conditioning spot.

Said he's not staying at FSU or going with Jimbo to A&M.

Agreed. For this year, I used the previous year's line, plugged in the 2017 247 Team Talent Composite, and extrapolated that Tennessee should have had an 8-4 or 9-3 record. The line based off of the results from this year again show that Tennessee should have landed in that range if they had an average coach.

So, I think that global average of wins relative to preseason talent is pretty stable from year to year, and it's probably a great way to set realistic expectations about the next season.

However, all of the fuzz around the line shows that it's probably not very useful for betting purposes.

Yeah I have kinda thought that but not smart enough to show evidence like you have. Haha. I don't like gambling when my team is involved so this is perfect for me. I think best case scenario is obviously a "natty". Realistic "goal" 9-3. Realistic floor 6-6. Probably win 7 or 8. I would be more surprised with 6 wins than with 10 though.

I think your floor and ceiling would be pretty close to the actual error bars of the regression line.

What Butch and Company did with that roster last year was "beyond the error bars" bad.

Hahahahaha. Beyond the error bars bad is a very nice way of putting it. And my new favorite insult. Big fan of math and subtlety.

Riot, you using Minitab to run your models?

JMP. I love the interface for running regressions, ANOVAs, and PCA.

I'm about to bite the bullet and learn R. I regret not jumping right into after learning all of that SAS code from taking graduate stats with Schmidhammer at UT back in the day.

I've never used that. I've used SPSS (a while back) and Minitab, which is what I use for some Six Sigma black belt stuff at work. I like Minitab pretty well, although you really have to know what you're doing to get the settings right on some of the more complex analyses.

P.S. I inserted the obligatory nerd emoji to save you morans the trouble.

I teach my quantitative methods class using SPSS. I find it more clunky than JMP.

*fist bump* on the nerd emoji.

Look at Marietta High School 2020 class. It’s absolutely crazy by itself.

Cobb county is a hell of a county. I remember a "discussion" where some on this board argued memphis was more important to us that that area and I think that has proven to be very false over the years.

Bull in the ring!!! Talk about a drill not for sissies, and probably gave a ton of concussions to kids.

Lol gotta love old school. No water during practice, drills where kids routinely get a helmet planted in their back.....

As much as I loved it, I’m sure glad most coaches are smarter than that these days.

Looking back thinking about it.... I almost feel bad for some kids. You could see the terror on their face when they were in the ring lol. Which is why football isn’t for everybody.
