About 30-40 mins outside Knox Co. We have an ancient mustang with flat tire (it's totally dead), dead battery, but it overheated a little bit last time it was driven. It only needs to make it on super-short trips until we get the car fixed and/or totaled.

We're thinking of having it towed to the local shop. Regardless of what happens with the fix, I think it's time to trade. We can use both it and the mustang although that can't be worth much.

Christmas is probably out tho. I just hope the mustang's overheating problem can last a few more weeks and that the local place can get it fixed up ASAP.

I'm at my wits end and no one's advice is rubbing me the wrong way. It's just a steaming pile.

Bitcoin is one of the things that I would stay away from personally. If Ziti stumbled in to it I hope he made a nice chunk and invests it it more proven investments going forward. He's playing with house money but that is no reason to give it back to the house.

Hey Prof,

Prayers for peace and maybe some small joys this holiday season. Keep things in perspective as best you can. Not being able to have Christmas the way you want, on the day you want, with those you love is disappointing, sad, frustrating, etc. But you can do Christmas any day of the year. My family has had to that more than I care to admit.

This holiday season has sucked for so many around me, too. Going to a funeral tomorrow for one friend who was expected to die soon but timing still rough. Helping another close family friend get his dad set up in hospice care this weekend. His dad just got diagnosed with brain cancer and probably only has a few weeks to months left at most. And he was managing 1000 head of cattle by himself a few weeks ago, ugh! And for me personally, I wont be able to spend what is probably my Dad's last Christmas with him due to multiple issues. But I will find some way to share Christmas spirit with those around me on actual Christmas day one way or another in this middle of nowhere rural place I live. And then I will love and hug my Dad someday soon when we can finally meet up and make it Christmas all over again. Only thing I can do at the moment.

Just wanted to let you know you are not alone in the frustration department this holiday season. For me, knowing this always helps me get by. It has helped me to read your struggles of late (and the volunteer spirit that followed). Harder some days, but I always try to find the positive vibes around me, even miniscule internet forum tidbits, to sustain me.

God bless you and yours, along with all the rest of you Volnation crazies 😛, this holiday season! A new year is soon upon us. And hopefully new joys will abound for us all! Including for our beloved football VOLS!

New recruiting junkie...watching tapes, reading reports, 247, Rivals, Hudl, stalking here, etc. Question for you pros, how do you know if we are still looking at someone we offered under ol' regime aka Trashman? Have a few I'm wondering about based on various factors.

I think it's been an ongoing process for all of us figuring out who the new staff is really targeting. That even goes for the guys who have been committed to us. The best way to figure it out is probably to pay attention to who the new staff is visiting when they're out on the road and who they're bringing to Knoxville for OVs. Checking player threads is a good place to get all the info on individual recruits. Anything relevant that comes out on major websites or twitter will usually end up in the player threads. A lot of new names have already popped up in the last couple of weeks, and I would expect that to continue when recruiting cranks back up in January.

Georgia always has a great roster. No need to freak out over a great recruiting class they are always really talented. As is most every other top tier program. Talent only gets you so far.

Georgia, under Mark Richt typically had great RBs and great QBs up through Aaron Murray. He did not consistently recruit top OL and DL players, and the quality depth on both lines of scrimmage were not championship caliber. The way Richt recruited was enough to win 10 or 11 games a year and get a berth in the Belk Bowl.

Kirby is recruiting on a whole other level. When did Richt ever recruit the #1 Dual Threat QB, #1 and #3 RB, #1 and #2 OG, #2 OT, #5 Center, #2 TE, #2 SDE, #1 and #5 OLB; in the same class? And Kirby still isn't done yet.

The popular narrative that Richt recruited well, doesn't hold up when you dig down into the details and look beyond just skill players like RB and QB. Anybody that follows SEC football knows it's a line of scrimmage league. Georgia's OL got pushed all over the place in 2015 and 2016. It was much improved in 2017, but it's still not on the level of teams like Bama. In 2017 Georgia has a LG playing LT, a converted DT playing center, a true freshman playing RT, a redshirt freshman playing RG, and the starter at LG will very likely not be the starting LG in 2018. The OL beginning in 2018 will be unlike anything Richt ever fielded.

The QB situation in 2016 was so bad that Kirby started a true freshman who played HS football in Washington and had no idea how to read defenses, set blocking protections and take a snap from under center. Then had to start another freshman in 2017 when Eason got injured because the senior QB Richt recruited throws more balls to the other team.

The secondary is made up of mostly walk-ons and three stars.

From a structure standpoint be it an executive team, a cabinet, people do it different ways, do you have an idea in mind how you want to structure things?

“I'm trying to figure all of that out. I'm talking to different people about structure. Right now, I don't care who gets the credit for anything as long as we get the coaches supported, our fans and alumni communicated with. I think we are doing pretty good. But pretty good is kind of the best of the worst and the worst of the best. We don't settle for pretty good.”

What’s it like running a football coaching search?

“It was like going out and getting a 5-star quarterback. It's the same thing. Maybe a little more sense of urgency because the timeline was not what you would have liked for to have been. But we went through the 'process', that word that everyone likes to use out there today. We went through the process. We interviewed a lot of really good candidates on both sides of the ball, head coaches, coordinators. One of the things is that I was able to gain a lot of information about the people that we have to beat in this league because as you talk to them you ask them really tough questions about different things in their organization. They are pretty anxious to tell you how much they know. So that helped some in the process.

“One day, I think it was the third day, I said you know what 'I don't think I have picked up a metal fork in three days. We were eating sandwiches on the plane or crackers. It's like recruiting in the old days. We had five visits in a day a couple of times. Then we called those guys back. I had to be in New York. I wasn't going to miss the New York time with Peyton. That's historical. So we brought people to New York to talk to them and that was great because then the chancellor got to be involved. That was a real plus for the whole process as well.”

I may be having bad news on the car from but YOU are a mensch. Maxwell also wrote the most heartwarming response I've ever been the recipient of. And this thread has been full of them.

I swear, I wouldn't have kept my sanity were it not for all of you. Be it thoughts, prayers or just chipping in it's had a profound impact. They've all touched my heat.

I may be low now but when I get my sanity back I know I will still always be grateful to the RF. The best peeps I've ever known, And ones who don't just mouth the words familu.

Like I said before, I'd help you bury the body - no questions asked. I know what kinda people you are.

I'll prob. miss Christmas but y'all have given me hope, faith in my fellow man, love for my vol brethren and sistern. IOW during a time when the word has and still is caving in me you have given me not just hope but a true Christian (inset your own awesome deity if you feel the need.

What did you mean when you called Pruitt a “football coach”?

“That he's not going to get caught up in the clutter. This interview we are doing is going to help us, but it's not going to help him win. Recruiting is going to help him win. Coaching is going to help him win. Coaching his coaches to how he wants it done is going to help him win. Building relationships with his players and with the former players. That's going to help him. My job and our job in the organization is to take as much of the clutter out of his world. Its not that he doesn't want to do it. He's very good at it. But right not it's crucial that his focus is on what he needs it to be focused on – recruiting, coaching, getting his calendar like he needs it for the team. All those things that take a lot of time.”

“He cared a lot his player. Not that the other candidates didn't. But it was his passion. He checked all the boxes that you wanted checked. And how I felt about things. We had a reasonable amount of success here based on how we did it. I wanted something that looked something like that. The pedigree that he has is incredible. Now, he knows this and I know this. The proof is in the pudding. Recruiting, coaching, development once they get here. The academic goals we all know are very important. The type of young men we bring in. All of those things and how they fit the system. We actually had to change direction a little bit on some recruiting based on where we were. In three days we had tripled our recruiting board with kids around the country that were interested in our program. That's how you win.

In this conference, you better be good in the line of scrimmage. We are working on that.”
