Couple observations from prospects today...
Still trying to catch up with a few of the recruits who have left town (as noted: Several will be here until early, early in the morning due to the delays in Atlanta), but a couple immediate takeaways after talking to guys throughout the afternoon...
1. Tennessee actually talked some football with the prospects in town this weekend. It sounds odd to say that, but that wasn't always (or even routinely) the case with the previous staff. The Vols still showed the prospects a great time, developed off-the-field relationships, but they also watched some film and got on the white board. As someone no longer at Tennessee once told me: "We know how to throw a great party (aka Orange Carpet Day) but we don't ever get down to brass tacks." Sounds like the new staff already knows the right balance there.
2. All three JUCO OL raved about Will Friend's candor. Whether it was talking about how "real" he was or "keeping it 100," you can tell why he's such a valuable member of Pruitt's first staff and well-respected on the recruiting trail.
Its not how hes recruited at Tennessee but it was when he was at Texas.
If/when the Titans make a move it will be McDaniels take it to the bank
Probably a different scenario at UT. Many of his recruits at Texas were within the state. There were several high level recruits from Las Vegas, and I am pretty sure Barnes had a relationship with that high school or prep school. The only real high level recruit other than those was Durant, from Maryland. Aldridge, Gibson, Augustin, Myles Turner, Abrams, Damion James- all from Texas.
Barnes really hasn't had much of chance to recruit that level talent from TN except Garland in 2018, who is going to Vandy. If we have a good year, I think you will see us recruit better talent next year. We only have one scholarship this year.
