Recruiting Forum Football Talk LIII

It was brought up by another poster. Good grief man get off your high horse

Says the dotard who over the past week has:

1. Tried to troll Ziti into calling Pruitt a womanizing alcoholic

and

2. Trashed Antone Davis for "not letting a story die" without reading the article about the story. The media got the email (which he sent to Reid Sigmon, Currie's right hand man in early November) as part of a public records request.

I know it's the honeymoon and everyone wants nothing but positive talk but I just don't feel any of the vibes about recruiting right now that you guys are acting like. Outside of the OL from Tennessee I don't see us having much to be excited about. It's been a little disappointing the last week or so IMO

Sad, no?

Give me a break

Haven't seen it mentioned but Marcus Marioto is such a classy guy. He's been criticized a lot lately and rightfully so. He talked about how "pissed"
He was after the loss Sunday and apologized for being rude to the media today. Damn I hope he figures his issues out because he is exactly what kind of role model the NFL needs.

Truth! The addition of Kyle Turris and the change in lines has been brilliant. They have great flexibility and depth right now. Stoked about this team. Must stay healthy.

Turris has 16 points in 16 games. He was an instant fit and Turris with Fiala is nasty right now. Crazy part is think about the team when Ryan Ellis comes back. With the offense they are generating and a smothering defense they are going to be a very tough out in the playoffs.

Penix coach not too happy. Apparently we told him we would honor his scholarship, then pulled it a few days later.

If we don’t have a class with 10 5* and 15 4*, then CJP’s tenure is a failure.

- Bruin, probably

This kind of post is just plain BS. I haven't once said I am down on JP. I just think it's going to be harder than we thought getting this class into the top 15.

Does anyone realsticly think this class ends up being top 15?

I thought it would be be 11-20 a week ago. I am afraid it's going to be more like 17-25 now.

And for the damn record I don't blame Pruitt for that.

Top 15 looks like a stretch at this point. But for this class I'm not as concerned about ranking as the type of guys we land. At this point in the game most blue chips are basically decided or close to it. We've seen Butch land some highly ranked classes that turned out to not have much substance to them.

Pruitt will have done a successful job in my book if he:

1. Brings in enough OL to shore things up heading into 2018. I'm hoping for the grad transfer, 2-3 JUCOs, and one more HS OL (Carvin or maybe the Kinnard kid).
2. Finds 2-3 big bodied DL to sign on who can hopefully contribute by 2019.
3. Brings in at least one DB with potential for an early impact.
4. Finds 2-3 LBs to have ready to compete or contribute in 2019.
5. Finds a TE who can contribute.
6. Gets a QB with SEC upside (or, failing this, finds a grad transfer who can provide depth as a stopgap).

Looking at our roster, those are the things we need most, IMO. If Pruitt can hit on most of those things, I think our staff can bring in a class in 2019 good enough to keep the 2019 on an upward projection. We stand to lose a lot of upperclassmen and maybe a few key underclassmen after 2018, especially on defense. If we can hit on enough guys on the LOS before February, we can probably fill in the gaps in 2019 with big time freshmen or JUCOs here and there if we have to.

None of that is ideal, but it's the hand Pruitt was dealt, IMO.

I just googled a pic of Austin Thomas. Not what I expected. The way these kids love him, I thought he would look like a cool, young, former football player that could relate to the kids. But, no, nothing like that. Well, whatever, this kid is supposed to be a star recruiter and he is off to a great start, so Mr. Thomas do what u do.

Good post.

Carvin is more important than any JC Ol IMO.

I am hoping for no more than 3 JC and grad transfers
Combined.

LBs looks like it's going to be an issue.

And the QB we appear to be targeting is extremely scary if he is the only one we sign.

Carvin is important, but he's an OG. The JUCO OT is more important, IMO. We have more guys who can play OG than guys who can play OT at the moment. At least one of the JUCOs we're in on has 3 years to play 3 (I think the Valentin kid), so that increases the value there as well.

I count the grad transfer separate because he's got one year to play. That makes him a lower risk than the JUCOs. JUCOs are admittedly a crap shoot, so I think bringing in 3 gives us the best odds of finding 1 or 2 who can play.

For LB, I think we'll be fine in 2018 and maybe even 2019 if Taylor, Bituli, and Kirkland all come back. Still gotta find some pass rushing OLBs and some MLBs for depth, though. Not sure it's wise to count on Kirkland staying healthy and sticking around for 24+ games given his injury history.

I'm not a huge fan of Shrout, but I see his upside. High ceiling/low floor type of guy, IMO. If he's our QB, then I hope like hell that he doesn't have to see the field until he's a RS Sophomore. I'd almost prefer the staff goes all in on the McKee kid even though he won't be on campus until 2019. If Shrout is our guy, then the 2019 class can't be a success without landing a big time QB.

siap, but just stumbled on this JUCO kicker.

I said right after JP was hired that it would take a miracle for him to sign a top 10-20 class. I just hope they can get a few good players. The search was a disaster that will have some pretty bad repercussions. We have to be patient with JP whether we like it or not. I want to see fundamental discipline and heart from the players, and good game planning, proper usage of talent, and development from the staff.
