Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

I'm pretty sure I remember him doing freaking awesome times management several times over the years..but that damn recency bias!!

Something was going on that caused everything to get discombobulated...pretty sure Heup didn't get stoopit overnight.

I agree. I think we got pretty dang close to threading the needle. He was trying to get in FG range to win it with no time left. Which should have been doable.

Starting at 2:40:17 in case the link doesn't start at that time specifically.

2nd down, The long TD was there but Jag hesitated just a bit and the pass was late and short.

3rd down, 18 seconds left. I think the plan was to run to get the first, which happened. Then get to the line to run the second play they had queued up, to get closer to FG before burning the second timeout with ~8 seconds remaining and one timeout left.

A quick set and run probably would have got us 3-5 yards. Or a dump off to Bishop instead of scanning the field for 4 seconds and burning that valuable time. Then you probably have 6-7 seconds left on 2nd down to run a quick out to get as close to the 35 as possible.

Gotta dump it off if you're not gonna take the shot. You can tell Josh was not thrilled. I think he had 3 routes for Jag -- deep if it's there, underneath to get to 35 for the FG, or dump off if you don't see anything. Jag just held it too long and wasted 7 seconds.

I think the lesson there is take the timeout after the first down to make sure everyone is locked in or give yourself a second to reevaluate. I can understand wanting to have those 2 timeouts because if you complete the pass over the middle after converting, boom you burn your timeout and you have enough time for one more quick play if you want to get a little closer.

I think we were one play off from getting into FG range and sealing the deal. If Joey is quicker on the trigger for the deep shot, or makes a quicker decision on that 1st down hurry up pass, I think we win. In the end it all worked out anyway. Thankful they didn't pick the hail mary at the end of regulation.

Hopefully the experience will be helpful later this year. How Josh envisions these end of game situations, and how they are executed, are a little off.

Severely underrated is bishops pash protection. Dude has been legit.

I hope after the break we move to a two man rotation at rb. It is obvious that star and bishop needs the most run.
I say keep the 3 man rotation - it’s a long season and we need them healthy. Lewis isn’t some huge drop off.

Yet I also said in my comment directly after about people who watch ball and film break down completely ruin your beliefs. We ran more cover two Saturday that we did all year and they spoke on how well Boo did with his assignments. Sorry you are mad at him for no reason and think that since he played likely 25% of the snaps that hood did that he is just awful. It’s just not the case. Also, I bet you think the safeties were awful (I did), but upon film review they actually played pretty decently other than missing some tackles which will happen.
Turpentine is hated on, but he made a lot of big tackles Saturday. It may have been his fault to let that one guy break loose on that deep ball, but otherwise he was flying around.

Yes he is. Not great at pass pro. And he just still runs straight. Plus three provides no rhythm for any of them. It’s a big drop off from bishop and star

Me included! I hated on him and he had a great game Saturday. The deep ball was actually on Hood. He should have kept that man but he wanted a pick and bit up. I thought it was Turrentine on first watch but he was actually coming back to try to help because he saw the man wide open.

Why do you always do this man? That's a personal shot at me for no reason. We remember why you created a NEW account, yet you want to call me mad? Implying I'm emotional in my comments about PFF's grading system (far more than Boo himself) and nothing about what I said was even negative towards Boo.

It's like you can't just have a level headed discussion, you swing to the extremes in every interaction. Didn't say Boo was awful, but I stand by Hood is our best CB and it's not a debate.

i just wasn't sure if they were in zone and Turrentine was supposed to take whoever went deep. But it makes more sense that it wasn't his job, if he did, he just bit down on the run too hard.

Who in the world said boo is better than hood? Crazy statement and I’d love to know because I haven’t seen that.

I mean isn't that you that said that?

Yet he graded as our best cb on Saturday with over a 90 grade. So literally everything you said is just your own feelings and is wrong.

And yest to be clear me sharing both of their stats from Saturday was me saying that regardless of PFF's "coverage grade" I very much believe Hood is not only our best CB playing but was also the best CB on the field Saturday against Miss State.
