Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

From the back judges angle, it does look like it could be OPI because the DB fell on his own while Brazzel had a hand on him. But when you're not the closest guy you can't throw a flag on a maybe. And the two wing officials on that side should have called him off because they had the better angle and didn't throw.

Terrible call, the guy fell down on his own, but it wasn't nearly as bad as the DPI they called on us. I can see how the OPI was a simple mistake by an over eager official.
They also discussed it for 30 seconds. If you are uncertain, you can’t make the call. You have to be certain to make a call like that.

This is a bad take. On the first one, it wasn't that high, and the TE didn't even have to fully extend his arms to get both hands on it.

On the 2nd one, it hit him in the helmet.

Joey could have done better on both, but primary responsibility on both was not Joey.
100% if you ask Miles, he would tell you he should have caught both of them!

So, the undefeated SEC teams: ( pretender or contender)
Ole Miss
Vandy
Mizzou
Oklahoma
Texas AM

I think Bama will end Mizzou and Vandy (Before we play them in a crazy atmosphere at their house)

I think Texas AM is a contender and looked very good. Don't know how Oklahoma will do without their Heisman quarterback (wasn't there a thumb problem?) Ole Miss has to play Georgia and Oklahoma.. We'll see.

Mizzou, Vandy, Oklahoma, Ole Miss are pretenders.

A&M has a favorable schedule, Bama will likely be in the championship game.

Can we afford a lose to Alabama is the real question here in that scenario.

My 4 SEC teams in the playoffs currently are Bama, Georgia, A&M & Tennessee.

TN won’t make it in if it comes down to us plus those 4. Especially if it’s 2-loss us and a 2-loss UGA and/or Bama, even if we beat Bama in Tuscaloosa.

Basically, we gotta win out to get in.

Maybe, I think at 10-2 we get in. I don’t think Alabama will blow us out either.

I don’t think Bama blows us out and I also think we have a real chance of winning. It should be a good game, especially if we go in injury free minus the ones already out. But if it comes down to a 2-loss SEC Champ Bama and a 2-loss UGA, I think they put them both in over us.

Edit for the record:
I also don’t think Bama makes it to the SEC championship. They’ll lose at least 1 or 2 more. I just don’t think UGA is as good as they’re made out to be, we just screwed the pooch and let them win it.

There was only 12,000 at the UCLA/northwestern game today
Unbelievable

I kinda feel bad for Nico bc his dad is an idiot

He has 608 passing yards and 3/3 tds and interceptions total
139 yds rushing and 1 td
Through 4 games
Because that’s all the current stadium seats. Real stadium is under renovations

Man our OL did not have a great game. Understandable, probably hard to communicate with those d*mn bells. I don’t know enough football to see what they were doing defensively but on that drive alone each linemen got beat at least once. Moe with a terrible block on the scramble to Matthews.
Normally I would've muted the TV, but our boys were having to endure that infernal noise and I wasn't about to bail out on them.
I have never been to Starkville for a game so I don't know how folks can sit through it for 4 quarters without going 🦇💩 crazy.

Colton Hood in the postgame press conference was asked about the play when Shapen got hit and fumbled and we picked it up and ran it for a score. His answer was hilarious. He said he didn’t even see the ball or who picked it up. Said he just heard their crowd go quiet and saw our players running towards the endzone so he looked at the MSU sideline and started talking trash 🤣
One of the weirdest plays for a player is carrying the ball on a play like that. I bet Josh Josephs didn't hear a thing. It probably sounded like nothing. . . another weird thing for a player on a play like that is looking up and seeing absolutely no one on the field in front of you. Maybe not so weird for a d-lineman, but definitely strange for a db or on a play like punt or ko return, where the play starts and you see every person on the field, then suddenly it's silent and there is no one in front of you, but the play is still going. Like suddenly enetering a liminal space.

I wonder if there is a name for the phenomenon where everything goes silent for the player, but the crowd is roaring in reality?

*Sally says there is no specific name for it. Some say it's a form of "flow state". Some call it "cleat echo". Also says it's a combination of things, mainly the prefrontal cortex shutting down and allowing hyper focus on small things, like hearing your breath, the steps of players behind you, or even your heartbeat.

Serious question. If we had made that kick against Georgia would we be the talk of College football. I’m surprised no analyst has brought up the offseason and how Hepuel has done a damn good job of keeping the boat full steam.
That would require them to say good things about us and give us credit though

Looking at it repeatedly, it struck me that the defender lost his balance when Brazzell swiped his arm down to remove the defender’s hand that was pushing against Brazzell if that makes sense. Was as bad of an Opi as I can ever recall seeing.

Horrible. Until there is a national pool of Officials with consistent standards of accountability this kind of crap will keep happening. Not just hurting UT. Officials should NOT affect momentum of games and it happens every week.
Agreed. Too much on the line to have weekend warriors out there. My brother-in-law’s old high school math teacher is an SEC official (I guess he still teaches). The biggest loser is Auburn last week against OU.
