Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

We all know we will have to beat Bama and the refs to win that game. Only chance we have for that game to be called even remotely fair is for them to lose both games against Mizzou and Vandy. We know that’s not happening. Just not sure what gives us the best chance for it to be called maybe 70:30…them having one loss or 2. Probably having only 1 loss.
Hopefully this (ms st) was our annual stinker/quarky/uncharacteristic unfolding on the road. And we play a lot better on the road in 3 weeks.

Is Vandy for real? I haven’t watched a second of any of their games but they are 5-0 and scoring a ton of points. Nico looked like a legit QB against them last year and our defense bottled up Pavia. But our defense is worse this year and their offense seems to be a lot better. Hopefully that won’t even enter “interesting” territory and we cruise to a W at home.

I’d guess it’ll be an interesting game with a Vols W. They aren’t a pushover

Penn State knows how to do a white out game

Step 1. Don't let the opposing team buy up half of your stadium
Step 2. Wear white to the game

*Mississippi State should take notes
What was the % Orange to White in the stands? On TV it looked almost 50/50. After the game it almost looked like a home game.

Nope. No way we move up. Guarantee FSU stays in front of us to prop up Bama’s loss. We will stay same or maybe even drop a spot or 2. Vandy will probably jump us too. Winning on road in SEC in OT against a 4-0 team deserves to be penalized.
Miss, State should be ranked, even with loss. They've already beat one ranked team and the way they played us makes me think they are better than most teams in the country.

Why did we not make more noise when they had the ball? That is allowed in the opponent’s stadium. Sounded like we had no one there.
Our fans were loud- but we still only had less than 20% of the crowd. They ring the cowbells when they are on offense, too.

I will give them credit- they do stop ringing them when the center is over the ball. They just ring them every other moment- lol. Instead of “drink responsibly,” their electronic signs say “ring responsibly.”

Still early but excellent takeaways from this game.

Joey Aguilar has a chance to have the single greatest season at QB in our history.

Kitselman and Stayley were off and we still won.

Brazzell is the best WR we’ve had since Juaun and we only know this due to QB change.

We should never, ever abandon the run again. We should play Boo here until he learns routes.

We missed a major opportunity in making their LB’s try to cover Star beyond the LOS and this shocked me considering we knew the personnel.

Catch the damn ball!

Our Dline seems to look for sack first and run second. That needs to reverse or we will lose in the swamp.

Heupel plays the end of half’s scared unless we are losing. He also needs a timeout coach that is a master of statistics. I will do it for free.

We need competition at kicker

When Hobbs and McCoy return we can be a very good defense.

Guts. This team seems to have it.

Wow, did we need this week to get here desperately! 4-1 entering the bye is probably where we all thought we would be before the season started. What we didn’t expect is for the defense to be struggling so much, for Joey Aguilar to be so so good, for the injuries to be devastating so early in the season, and for our record to be where it is because we dropped a game to Georgia in OT that we should have won and won a game in OT at MSU that we might should have lost. So, the net is we are still 4-1, and have a lot to look forward to if we can get healthy and correct our mistakes.

Keys to win the bye week:

1. GET HEALTHY ON DEFENSE! This is the most important key these next 2 weeks. We have weathered a lot of adversity the first 5 weeks. Now, we need everyone back healthy and to hope McCoy is ready to be back close to what he was pre-injury.

2. Can we please practice fundamental tackling and taking better angles in the off week? Both have been atrocious for our defense.

3. Get every single offensive skill position player on the JUGS machine every day all day (except Brazzell), and especially Kitselman, Staley, and all the RBs!

4. Coaches, you have some things to evaluate schematically (defense) and with in-game decisions we are making, as well as clock management mistakes (Heup). These things need corrected just as much as the things above.

Do these things, hone in on fundamental
Football, and we win the bye week and should be prepared for the next 4 game gauntlet before our next bye. LETTUCE GO!

ONE TEAM, ONE HEARTBEAT!

I’ve watched a little of them in 2 games and they looked well coached and their qb is extremely accurate along with being a willing / productive runner. Will be very interesting to see them in SEC play as it appears they have become a tough out.

No Baby Heup, Tyre West and Colton Hood TOOK it from you. Prison Yard style.
I heard this from one of their fans. As I said to them, we spotted them points too. I believe only one of their TD drives was reasonable length. Three of their scores were after really short fields.
