Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

Apparently Mississippi State's defense is all about taking away the deep ball.

They are 14th in the country in passing yards allowed giving up only 129 yards a game.

They're longest completion given up is 37 yards.

That being said, we are by far the best passing offense they have played so far.
We will have to lay a
USCjr 2022, UF, MO 2023 and ARK 2024 level egg in order for State to have a chance.

Hope to goodness we buck that trend. Feels like this group won't let that happen and they'll bring it.

Hyatt was a fast receiver who played in a different version of our offense. He was not asked to run complex routes and we utilized wide splits to bust him wide open. This was also before teams adjusted their defense to what CJH was doing offensively. The result was what you saw.

NFL teams play their safeties back quite a bit and everyone is fast in that league. Combine that with the fact that he is on a terrible Giants team and this is your result. Nabers is on that team, and he is their WR1 by a large margin.

Good stuff. And I agree the ‘22 offense is unrecognizable compared to this years as the only thing that seems consistent from then to now is tempo and gap scheme runs.

I don’t think Hyatt was a bad receiver. I think he was an elite College Football WR but sadly that doesn’t always translate to the NFL. That shouldn’t affect your perception of him as very few people in the world can claim to be a success story in the NFL. Many successful NFL players didn’t even do much in college that would lead you to believe they’d make it in the league.

But, you never know. It seems like the Giants have a habit of making really good players look like crap so he may go on to break out somewhere else.

I don't think Heupel gets enough credit for how versatile his run scheme is. Yes, he schemes guys into light boxes many times, but he's not stuck in using any one run scheme and that is such an advantage to have. You have to recruit more versatile offensive linemen to run such a scheme but we fortunately have.

One thing to keep in mind 4 games in and 2 were cupcakes...

The good news Syracuse seems pretty damn good, and obviously Georgia game has confidence really high.

BUT defense has a lot of improvement...even if ya just toss the Dawgs game out they're still giving up 22.3 PPG, 2nd highest in Banks' tenure here...I just hope being young/inexperienced and banged up is the reason and we see them improvement each week.

Although our schedule doesn't give us many breaks.

Total Offense in SEC

8th Miss State
5th Arkansas
6th Bama

Georgia is 9th...so these next 3 games are gonna be big for the defense, the good news is getting that BYE week after Saturday. It eases up though as only Vandy left on the schedule is top 10 in total offense.
Yeah I've said a few times, Bank's soft zone, then tighten up in the red, ain't gonna cut it the next 3-4 games... I understand we are down two starters in the secondary, but he needs to earn that paycheck and start getting creative with the talent we have...

Been saying this, but Urban saying it is basically Florida's UAA saying it ain't going to happen. That's wild, but that's where UF is.

Florida fans are going to be PISSED.
Buddy of mine who is a UF fan said Napier and the administration are going to use Lagway being injured as an excuse to keep Billy around. And yes, their fans are pissed.

Georgia is really the only one to look at when it comes to scoring defense. Both Cuse and UAB scored all their points on 3rd-4th teamers

14 came in the 2nd quarter and it was 24-14 until the last drive when Bishop scored again to make it 31-14 at half.

I think the defense is better than the scoring defense shows though, but still think they have plenty of improvement ahead of them.

Oh, my goodness. Florida's Administration is a hot mess. This interim president had to be promised 2 million dollars if by the end of his term he isn't made president and it's said he has no interest in being the permanent president at 71-years-old. So Florida's search firm is still trying to identify a candidate to be permanent president. It doesn't sound like there is much interest.

My thoughts exactly.

He said the talk is they are going to redshirt Lagway and use him not being healthy this season as the excuse. Basically, try and get the fans to believe had he been healthy this season would’ve been better and it wouldn’t be fair to fire Napier under those circumstances.

Billy Napier called the idea DJ could shut it down "comical" today.

Am I crazy, or did I see some preseason article or guy looking at SEC QB's for the draft at the end of the season and Lagway was on the list?
