I wish we had oil baron money. Texas Tech buying a Georgia-level roster after 1-2 more years of this…

I really don't understand how the powers that be think this is at all sustainable. When Championships are bought, fans are going to lose interest really quickly especially when their favorite team doesn't happen to be one with a bottomless pit of resources to buy players. It's inevitable. And they are responsible. This is the route they chose to go.

When Championships are bought??

I totally get what you're saying and agree that this isn't sustainable because there is no long-term return on investment. However, championships have been bought for decades. This is just a new means of buying them but with transparency and stupid price tags. It's been a long time since college football occurred without somewhat material inducements for players to try and gain competitive advantage. Maybe 70+ years.

Ironically, it was oil money and the old SWC that went over the top before and started the reign of NCAA enforcement in the late 70's and early 80's. Envy and disposable cash still make poor bedfellows.

I think it was pretty clear that they were going to bring in a starting caliber QB after Nico. It’s why the Big 12 QB’s and Altmyer were thrown around. But reports were that a QB was coming in to compete. I get the playing time debate, which is a separate issue. But juggling these things in this era is not easy.
We got the luckiest break of all time landing Aguilar and getting rid of Nico.

Championships have always been bought man. It's just above the table and in your face now.

We deserved Vandy and UK after being 1 of the only 2 teams that had to play Bama and UGA every season

In 4 years they'll swap out Kentucky for a more difficult opponent

need to make the most of the arrangement in the short term

he may not have had anything to do with this, but I will choose to attribute this fortunate outcome to our AD

in years past, I feel like they would have given us Florida, Bama and UGA

Yeah, you're right, but now it is becoming apparent to those who are fans of schools that can't buy a roster that can compete at the highest level that there is a fundamental factor that will block them from competing for titles.

I have been following the fan bases of many of these teams that were once competitive and are no longer able to compete at the levels they are historically used to and MANY have completely tuned out. Those message boards are no longer as active as they once were and they are littered with people saying they will no longer support the program. So IMO it's not the same. The landscape now is completely different from pre-NIL.

And that problem will only get worse! Sports fans are really gullible but there's only so much losing they will endure before they decide it's not worth investing in a product that brings them mostly misery.

I don't believe it was ever to this level but yes, there was always 'cheating the system' when we had rules around these things. I'm not a fan of NIL, but there are some positives like spreading the wealth.
