Obviously Heupel knows Mac is better than Merk. The question you should be asking is why he isn't playing, or more to the point, it should be obvious there is a reason. I don't think he does that without intent.

When Joey was named starter, AP said something on one of the pods insinuating it could be hard to keep Merk engaged because this was his opportunity and he sees the writing on the wall in the future. Is it that simple? I think it’s fair to have some concern regarding his personnel decisions on Offense

The guy has put up stupid numbers the entire time he's been here and everywhere he's been prior. If that isn't enough to satisfy 'concerns' I'm sure nothing will.

Mac has already played this season, just don’t understand why he didn’t get run vs UAB (especially if it’s only 1 of 4 appearances he’ll make).

Not trying to bash merk, but Mac is probably the real #2. No question he is if he didn't look like a zipper when he sticks his tongue out and stands sideways.

Mac is the actual #2 for sure. Gotta keep Merk involved though. Need the depth.

You play him in game 1 so he gets real game experience, and you get game tape of things that he needs to work on for the rest of the season. You then don’t play him, and you hope that Aguilar doesn’t get injured. Every additional game that we play without GMac playing increases the likelihood that we could still redshirt GMac even if he is forced into playing due to a Aguilar injury.

I don’t think preserving red shirts are the same priority as they used to be. The kids size would be my major concern for putting him in any game but either Heup tries to develop him or he will be portal shopping again. Merk just doesn’t seem to have it.

Penalties, Poorly coached, penalties, wrs cant catch besides Ayomanor, OL is garbage, penalties, absolutely no pass rush, penalties, db’s struggle-partly due to lack of pass rush, and oh yea, did i mention penalties

On3 gives us hardly any shot with 27 recruits in state. DGG is down to Georgia and OSU.

I love Heup as our coach. But this is the area that causes me the most heartburn. I realize there are a lot of unknowns that only the staff would have access. Maybe G-Mac plans to leave after the season with Brandon coming in.

That said, none of us would be happy with Heup and staff if JA had not been signed. He is in his fifth season as HC and his current back-up who would have been the starter is not good at all. Yet, he has an obvious future starter sitting behind him. Not a good look IMO.

Not enough time in the day...

Chad Brinker. Callie. Assistant Coaches. Amy - handed it all to Brinker because she is clueless apparently.

Did I say Callie? What a crap O system and play caller. What crap in-game decisions. What crap team discipline with all the penalties.

Even the defense is under performing now and it was a team strength last year.

Don't have time for all of the player issues, but key injuries are not helping. Which means the back-ups suck.

They have the right QB. Score one for the new GM. Then deduct one from him for signing Moore at LT.

It appears they will be picking early again unless something weird and fortuitous happens. But with who they have running the team it may not help.
