Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

I’ll be dumb. McCoy needs to get his ass ready for Arkansas. And David Sanders needs to be ready this week.
Fixed it for you.

McCoy is coming back from an ACL. The fact he might be back in a couple of weeks is way ahead of schedule.

The Sanders issue is what it is. You don’t mess around with nerve issues - playing him too soon could make a small problem into something major quickly.

Maybe I’ve missed it, so can you elaborate? Nerves as in “there’s something going on with particular nerves somewhere in his body”? OR nerves as in “he’s nervous about something and isn’t quite ready”? I’m hoping/assuming you’re referring to the former.

IMO Hobbs is a 1st rd talent, Moi is pretty good as well so of course it’ll be beneficial for those two to return. Linebacker play is holding us up big time. Watching Miami linebackers against UF made me so jealous. Carter is overrated to me, but he’s the best of the bunch. I honestly thought Spillman would be better but he’s still got a lot of football in front of him. I wanted Telander to be Brian Cushing so bad, but he’s not. I have no idea how the hell does Ben Bolton play meaningful snaps. I thought #12 was a DB until I looked him up, the freshmen are tiny currently. We have no natural ‘backers who can shoot a gap and destroy a running back. That’s got to change and fast.
We prefer longer DBs that can run. Since they are taller, they will look smaller. But I agree mostly with your take. DL will take a major step with Moi and Hobbs back. When McCoy returns, DB will take a big step too. It will allow us to bring a safety up to help the run and leave our DBs in more man situations.

I’m not sure what is going on at linebacker. They look lost and slow. I am not sure how Telander is starting over Spillman or why Bolton gets any reps. We have to get more speed on the field if we are going to require them to cover so much. Feels a lot like we are playing camp warriors and rewarding older players. Have to play the talent.

Offensively… we are a unit. Only real thing you could say is star needs 50% or more of the carries and then let the others split the rest. I don’t think I would trade our offense for any offense in the country right now.

South Cackilacky was supposedly a better team than us according to the AP poll and were a top 10 team a few weeks ago. Man the AP voting poll is filled with a bunch of morons and lemmings.
Why in the ever loveing **** was Illinois ranked 9?!?! B1G homers love to talk about SEC bias but the B1G gets just as much love as the SEC.

Also, why do we need Sanders so badly? The starting line has yet to give up a sack and only like 2 negative running plays. We don't need Sanders right now. He needs to get to 100% healthy and then take sparing reps in games (if needed) until he and the other linemen are a cohesive unit

If we can survive against Georgia with our line I think we’ll be okay.

Because if one of the starting 5 goes out, we’re suddenly facing a lot of uncertainty.

I haven’t been too impressed with any of the backup OL play.

didn't Merk get sacked yesterday?

You’d think they’d wanna hire a good coach but it’s UCLA so probably not
No kidding!

If Sanders is really having nerve issues then he might not play for a while. Don't want to jump to any conclusions. Such a strange situation and feel bad for him - went through camp and dominated. Was ready to go.

Our injury bug has been impactful, but I am still very pleased with our depth.
