Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

From the portal though. Just like Joey. Really Nico is the only starter he recruited out of hs
I can’t see us spending asinine money like that again on a QB. Certainly not a HS QB.

I just wonder why he didn’t recruit a veteran after last year. Surely to goodness Heupel behind the scenes was like: “Dam, this kid sucks”

Which is why I think he’s lucky he left to where he did. No one here had even heard of Joey Aguilar 7 months ago.

And he wasnt the only one that was wrong about Nico.

Sark and Arch, another one.

QB and ol are there two hardest positions to evaluate from one level to the next. Even for really good coaches.

I wonder how all the football geniuses around the country missed on finding him? How did he end up at UCLA and wasn't impressive enough for them to hang onto him? I heard the rumours, but they seem to be 1000% false.
Overreaction to, and no real analysis of his play at Appy St last year....none of them noticed he was running for his life while down huge every game, and trying to be Superman because he had to.

And I hope Heup starts looking around for hidden gem guys like Joey to bring in as well as the highly ranked guys.

On Basilio’s post game he said a few interesting things:

Thinks our 3 annual opponents will be Bama, Vandy, and UK like many believe.

Expects our 2026 schedule to be brutal.

Said Sanders thing is a spinal nerve issue (I had not heard this yet) and he’s in a lot of pain. Stuff like that can be pretty scary.
LSU, Texas, Texas A&M, ole Miss, mizzou, South Carolina, aubby

6 of those teams for 2026

Will be tougher but we will continue to improve talent wise and we have one of the best coaches in the game leading us

There are none.
Well.. We can tweak how we call defenses in a game. Today we really only rushed 4 most of the time.

Unless we get Moi and Hobbs back I don't know that we're capable, right now, of pressuring the way we need to, without being more creative with blitzes.

We did against Syracuse and UGA. Today I think was more about putting guys on tape to find out more about what we got up front so we can work on some rotations/personnel packages going forward?

Went to the ER and he is fine did a CT Scan and all good… he threw up twice but seems alright. I used to play football and baseball (had my share of concussions) so I put some shades on him (he thought he was “cool dude”) and leaving in low light no screens and Tylenol… glad he is alright.

This will seem like a shot at Heupel but it’s not. Hooker and Aguilar essentially landed in his lap. Milton and Nico were guys he brought in. Can Heupel trust his own evaluations for QBs?
I still think he just got unlucky. Milton’s arm strength makes every coach think “if I can fix him...” And Nico looked elite as a high schooler.

If Faizon busts we might have a problem. I think running his offense actually requires a very specific skillet that isn’t necessarily 1:1 with traditional QB evaluations. And it’s perhaps difficult to determine if a high school or transfer QB can run it effectively before they get to campus.

FWIW I am still not sold on Oklahoma.

The refs were definitely a factor.

But watching them play... That's a good football team and definitely better than last year offensively. Defense is still really good.

OU is a tough out for sure.

That said... Different animal when playing on the road... So there's still tests to pass.
