Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

Reviewed every 4 years? I don’t like that. That equates to: give Georgia and Bama the 3 teams that seem to be easier draws, and screw Tennessee over.
Don’t matter who your three are
Take for instance If we get bama, vandy and UK the other 6 will be tough

More then likely we get bama, UK, vandy for 4 years
Other 6
Texas
Texas a&m
Aubby
LSU
2 of Missouri/Ole miss/South Carolina

Our team is building to compete with anyone

Yet another mischaracterization. Heupel was a player, so clearly that logic don't hunt.

Since your player buddies clearly know, please enlighten me:
1. What was Tennessee's detailed gameplan? Not what you saw on TV, but the planning behind it?
2. Since you likely know that, I'm curious...how many man-hours went into planning? Given the number of non-coach advisors on staff, I'm sure it was a bunch.
3. What adjustments did UGA make that shut us down in Q2, and what adjustments did UT make to start moving the ball again in the 2nd half?
4. What was the exact status of every player? Not at the start of the game, but before every play that you disagreed with?
5. What was the exact percentage that Max hits from left hash, 35 yards out? What about 40? How does that compare to center or right hash?
6. What were your thoughts on the refs? How did that play into your thesis?
7. How about the 100 other details that Heupel knows that none of the rest of us do. Please, don't hold back.

I'm not saying people don't know football, I'm saying they don't know all the details that went into that moment.

I've run my own company for 33 years. For 33 years I've had people second guess my decisions. Very few of them are as good as me. Some are better. None have all the information I have. It matters.
Wow! Lol

I run my own company too. I would never tell anyone that I am better than them or my views are almost always correct. I hire people who are smarter and think outside the box. We all have different views and many times it takes a group mindset to have the best decision. You sound like a nightmare to talk too or work with.

Again… I wish people would read and interpret before positing. I never said once my VFL friends are right and Heupel was wrong. I’m posting opinions. I would have gone for the TD and he wanted to run for a field goal. We will never know. He could have thrown one up for a pick and we lose. Like your post says that coaches know more than any player ever and they are uninformed speculation.

I think that’s completely false but we all have our opinion. Many NFL players have never coached and would likely not be good coaches as that is all how you relate and teach. That doesn’t mean they don’t understand football or couldn’t have been great coaches. Some were happy to get paid and retire young.
Opinions are fine. Informed opinions are much more worthwhile. That was more the point that the other poster was trying to make. You and your football buddies don't have near enough of the actual needed information to make good, informed opinions. CJH did not "run for a FG" in that possession. We ran plays that gave us the best chance to gain yards based on where we were on the field and the type of defense that was being played. If the OL/TE/RB execute the plas that were called we would have easily been in the Red Zone with a chance to score a TD. This hilarious echo chamber of "we got conservative and just played for the FG" after the TO is patently false. It is not an opinion.

Unsubstantiated source so take it with a grain of salt. I would loooooove if the Oklahoma OC left to get a head start on the UCLA job.

Josh Pate and Colin Cowherd were talking about the UCLA job on Cowherd’s podcast. Cowherd said he lived in LA for years, knows a lot about the program etc and that it’s a terrible job. Pate agreed. He basically said they are going to have a really hard time convincing a good coach to take it. He also said he doesn’t think a good coordinator would take it. He said he obviously hears things and has talked to guys himself and coordinators at big schools won’t take the UCLA gig. Pate said there are multiple G5 jobs that are better than UCLA and coaches are willing to be patient and wait for others to open up. Cowherd said something about being friends with Chip Kelly and said Kelly and his wife love LA but even loving LA as much as they do couldn’t keep him at UCLA. Everything they said was negative.

Chip was also a terrible recruiter that also didn’t like to recruit at all. He was widely reported to have ignored kids that would come to visit with him by hiding in his office lol.

I know that but both guys said there’s almost nothing good about the job aside from the location.

One effect of bloated coaching contracts around the country is that coaches are harder to hire away from any P4 school. Most of those guys have GREAT contracts where they are at. Shane Beamer has ZERO incentive to leave SC. He makes 8 million a year. He has more resources where he is. I keep seeing Lane Kiffin's name pop up on all those message boards. Why would he leave? He's been setting things up there in Oxford for years to be there awhile. Note: there were ZERO coaching changes in the SEC last year. I think it's related.

Yes. I'm a total nightmare. Which is why I can count on one hand the amount of attrition I've had in 33 years. Most of my employees have been with me for 20+ years. Try again.

I consult my top four or five guys for every major decision, but ultimately it's my judgment call. If I don't trust my own judgment, I probably shouldn't be running the company, should I? I would gladly hire guys smarter than me, and for many of the jobs I can and have. But for core design work, the number of guys in the country who do what I do is pretty small and most of them work for major corporations. A partner company decided they were going to hire generic smart guys to do what was supposed to be a two year project. If took seven years and the result was a disaster. Meanwhile my team was half the size, did the job in less than half the time, and it didn't suck.
