position group weakness/where we need depth/more talent after week 3...

LB-- we are thin and descent, sometimes good, but not great...

Safety- ugh

DB's-- only because our two starters are out

DT-- need another

I hope we see a lot of Boo and Beasley at safety this week. I didn’t realize how bad Turrentine played and seems to always play against good teams. Have to stop playing favorites and demote him to a role player. Also, play the freshmen linebackers. Bolton doesn’t need to see the field and Telander needs to be a role player. Lot more Spillman.

Bolton was highest graded LB albeit with only 9 snaps.

Telander was 2nd highest graded with 54 snaps. Arion the worst in 86 snaps.

Lol PFF…

Must not have watched when Bolton came in the fourth. They immediately hit moved it in three plays to scoring position. Then he was pulled when they were in scoring position. Just because he stands in the right spot doesn’t mean he is doing anything to help, evading blocks, making tackles, etc.

PFF is the most mind boggling grading system. I swear the players that look great during the games seem to have mediocre grades and there will be players that get picked on and somehow end up with the highest grade on the team. How the hell did PFF become so popular?

Just adding some more context to the convo 🤷🏻‍♂️

Depending on how we react/bounce back from this loss we had in the bag (F the refs and we should have run another play to get the yards back on the false start FG attempt) , along with when and if starters return other than Gibson--- we need Redmond to improve daily... he did great, but turn your damn head kid... you would have easily batted away the 4th down TD in the corner of the endzone. Could have been game right there.

2-3 losses unless we keep improving-- OK/AL.... maybe FL only because the swamp. To win these games we will need everyone healthy and playing at a high level like this past weekend. I feel better about FL only because of when we play them and they may be beat up and beaten down by then. We MUST take advantage of home field against OK.

2 games where if we are off or don't bring it for four quarters--- Vandy and Arky

Not sure who is really that good and bad yet, too much going on and too many teams this season in the SEC with talent (NIL and transfer portal) that can be dangerous if playing lights out.

Highly disagree Redmond could have easily batted the 4th down TD. That was a heck of a throw/catch.

It would've been an all-time great play to knock that away

Looking back on the game, it's good to just be in those kinds of games again. Heavyweight slugfests. We've had a few go our way at home recently. Saturday didn't. That's okay, because more WILL go our way at Neyland. Even during Bama's peak years under Saban, they still lost some otherwise instant classics at home.

It should’ve royally ticked off Mike Mathew’s, Braylon Staley, Chris Brazzell, the entire TE and OL room that daddy Iamaleava was upset with Heupel that there wasn’t enough talent around their son. Turns out the problem was at QB.
The sad part is, I believed our wide receiver room sucked. That stupid family had me thinking we weren't good. Turns out, we had talent but you can't have somebody overthrowing receivers or 500 mph slant routes, and our offensive line held up quite well against Georgia.

Smart.

When you allow your joy and your self-esteem to be dependent on the performance of a football team, you have some things very out of balance in your life and you really need to assess some things. In years past it had become idolatrous to me and I was forced to repent and realign. Of course I'm disappointed, but I no longer get angry. I enjoyed the day and it was great to see UGA require multiple lucky breaks to squeak out a win. We'll get 'em next year. Or better, at the SEC championship game.

Now my daughter and SiL haven't quite internalized those spiritual lessons...
Well said, I love to watch sports but the outcome of the games has no bearing on my life. Life goes on and the sun will come up tomorrow after each win or loss...

We’ve recruited edge rushers really well here, and it showed Saturday. We have to recruit better at each level on defense. You could see the talent disparity relative to UGA.

I feel like most Vol fans have this false perception about how attractive the Florida job is. Perhaps entirely due to Urban Meyer choosing it over Notre Dame, but that was in 2005. Recruiting has changed. No one would take that job over ND today.

It doesn't matter if you have gobs of talent within your state borders when you have as many other teams in-state all recruiting that talent, at least two of them with more resources. And the fan expectations have never been realistic. Look what got their last several coaches fired.

Lane Kiffin has it made at Ole Miss and now his family is entrenched there in Oxford with him. He's not leaving. He gets an automatic year extension on his contract every year he wins at least 7 REGULAR SEASON games. He's exceeding all the expectations there and is making more than Florida is paying Napier.
Lane "Train" has no pressure at Mississippi a solid Bowl game and a playoff appearance occasionally will do for that fan base. The Baseball coach gets more heat than Kiffin does...

Why he’s going in before the new super athletic freshman just blows my mind. They might not know the whole defense yet but I’d rather have guys in there that are so athletic they can somewhat recover than an older guy who knows where to be but literally can’t make a play on the ball and just gets ran right past or stuck in blocks.
