I agree with you on Barnes and Heupel. Both of those guys, especially Heupel, seem "too normal" to be very successful at the highest levels of coaching, and I mean that as a compliment. Tony V seems like an entertaining guy, one who'd be fun to play for, but he definitely doesn't come off as a well-adjusted guy. He's also single and doesn't have kids, which makes it easier to be that way.I have said it previously, but we seem to have a group of pretty down to earth coaches. I have taken my kids and interacted with Barnes and Heupel on a couple of occasions. They have others to see, and they talk to the kids about sports and school and generally want to chat. They are just also really motivated to win.
I think we just have a different definition of what an inferior college quarterback is. I don’t like the guy but he was a gamer that made many game changing plays. He certainly was surrounded by enormous talent but he made it run. Beck was surrounded by extreme talent and couldn’t get it done. He seems like a punk to me but the guy was a really good college quarterback. Most quarterbacks that win national championships are on great teams as well. All I am saying is that Georgia was so good everywhere else those two years that they won with an inferior QB, it happens. Hell we won a Natty with one.
One correction: Kirby picked Fromm instead of Fields. Fields leaving is why Stetson came back from JUCO—and he was promptly third on the depth chart. They were both decent college QB’s and pretty much bench sitters in the NFL. All because they really weren’t that good. About anyone would have won those national titles, heck even Nico would have looked good behind that OL with those RB’s, WR’s and especially TE. Not even counting the Defense that they had. Also Kirby picked Stetson instead of Fields and Fields easily would have won both those natty’s as he’s a better QB by far. Pretty much Stetson was a game manager, same as Saban used many years.
I think it’s really hard to forecast how a QB will respond to the mental challenge of a more complicated system, or to assess how well they see the field and process in a HS offense. So he's the opposite of Nico in almost every way possible??? That's awesome

The more I see/hear about Joey Aguilar, his family, and the way the team talks about him, the more I like him. I feel like we've got the basketball version of Jahmai Mashack. Just a hardworking baller, that came from a family that loves him and now they all love UT. If Joey pulls this off Saturday (and I believe he/we will), he'll go down in VFL lore and be beloved forever.
Heupel knows what he's doing. I think Nico was a big name and a flashy pick to impress the fans but obviously he was overrated and didn't work out. I'm to the point that whoever Josh wants, I'm good with. The media and recruiting services can't be trusted...... I trust Coach Heupel

I personally don't think qb is the most important position in CFB like it is in the NFL. In the League is extremely difficult to win without a top notch qb. The National Championship is regularly won with game managers. The top qbs in the League are often from teams win nothing.I think we just have a different definition of what an inferior college quarterback is. I don’t like the guy but he was a gamer that made many game changing plays. He certainly was surrounded by enormous talent but he made it run. Beck was surrounded by extreme talent and couldn’t get it done. He seems like a punk to me but the guy was a really good college quarterback. You are parodying with a kid that done nothing but everything that has been asked of him? Why? Because he didn't win the job as a RS Fr and he didn't look the way you wanted him too in a quarter of live action with mainly the 2nd/3rd string offense. Again. I am glad you are not on our coaching staff or making personnel/player recommendations. If Mac earns the PT then he will pass Merck naturally, but the coaches decide that. You saying the coaches should give up on Merck is a top level post on the crappy post scale. It was you who referenced “time and effort”, I was parodying it.
This ^ is a sunken cost fallacy though.
As is the strawman you continue to put forth that equates prioritizing Mac over Merk with selling Merk down the river into chattel slavery.
The coaches coach all the players. They don't give up on one player because their not catching on fast enough. If anything, the coaches should double down on Merck. These kids are people but they also represent an investment in time and effort from the coaches and the players themselves. Merck should, and does, get the same level of coaching that Swaguilar and GMac get. He should and will continue to get that. SugyVol was the one that originally said that the coaches should stop spending time and effort on Merck. I say the opposite. They recruited him for a reason...now they have to coach him up.What does "wasting time on Merk" mean, anyway? I think you're describing a hypothetical that doesn't exist.
Week to week in the season, the coaches should be solely focused on winning the game that weekend, and that's going to be accomplished by pouring virtually all resources into the starter. During the season, development is going to be mostly independent study. If you aren't playing, your contribution is probably learning the other team's scheme so you can run scout team. And then paying attention in meetings in case you have to play.
I think it is very simple for Merk. He knows with >90% certainty whether he will be better than GMac one year from now. That will decide if he stays or goes.
GMac will do the same calculus when Faizon gets here.
I’m not sure being on an active NFL roster is “washed out in the NFL”Who cares at this point. He washed out in the NFL like every other Georgia QB not named Stafford. Pretty obvious guys like Bowers were carrying him hard but he was also reportedly a high (?) functioning alcoholic during his whole career there. Maybe that was his secret to success.
Agree to disagree lol.I’m not sure being on an active NFL roster is “washed out in the NFL”
I love it.It's hilarious to me that it's 2025 and Florida is still doing the Grumors thing. https://247sports.com/college/flori...urces-jon-gruden-is-in-play-253766489/?page=4
