Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

UGA fans are a weird mixture of arrogant and extremely insecure. They comment on Vols-related media, podcasts, tweets, etc., more than any other fanbase by far.
I would describe them that way before they won the back-to-back titles. A big part of their insecurity was that they hadn't won a title since 1980, despite being a good program for a long time. You'd mention other good teams and other programs, and there response to that was always something like "Yeah, and UGA is right up there too, right?"

They've continued to act that way after they've won those titles and been among the top programs in the sport for years now, so it isn't insecurity but rather just pure obnoxiousness.

IMO, they don't hold a candle to the most neurotic and oddball fanbase of them all though, which is Texas A&M. And I like all the A&M fans I've come into contact with - they're just weird.

I mean...I think you actually do have to be kind of crazy to want to be a head football coach, especially at a major program.

A lot of successful coaches are not exactly normal, down-to-earth, well-adjusted people. Psychopaths? No, but also not normal everyday people.
I have said it previously, but we seem to have a group of pretty down to earth coaches. I have taken my kids and interacted with Barnes and Heupel on a couple of occasions. They have others to see, and they talk to the kids about sports and school and generally want to chat. They are just also really motivated to win.

Psychopathic is very unlikely. That's a different beast.

But I'd bet a vast majority would rank highly on sociopathic tests.

Not all that different from corporate america. See: The Gervais Principle, Or The Office According to “The Office”. Great set of free articles on The Office, re: office politics and hierarchy.

Stetson Bennett was way better than McElroy lol. I love hating on him, but they don't win titles if he actually sucked.
They were both decent college QB’s and pretty much bench sitters in the NFL. All because they really weren’t that good. About anyone would have won those national titles, heck even Nico would have looked good behind that OL with those RB’s, WR’s and especially TE. Not even counting the Defense that they had. Also Kirby picked Stetson instead of Fields and Fields easily would have won both those natty’s as he’s a better QB by far. Pretty much Stetson was a game manager, same as Saban used many years.

Also agree with this. We're in a pretty unique time of having great coaches, in every way.

Absurdly unique, in fact.

I'm wondering if the struggles with AP were because UGA spent the week preparing for the TN game. Maybe @peaygolf has some insight into this.
Let's be honest........UGA went in and was vanilla on offense.
After the long delay.........even more so.

Problem is.............Vanilla wasn't working great against an inferior opponent.

So he's the opposite of Nico in almost every way possible??? That's awesome

The more I see/hear about Joey Aguilar, his family, and the way the team talks about him, the more I like him. I feel like we've got the basketball version of Jahmai Mashack. Just a hardworking baller, that came from a family that loves him and now they all love UT. If Joey pulls this off Saturday (and I believe he/we will), he'll go down in VFL lore and be beloved forever.

Heupel knows what he's doing. I think Nico was a big name and a flashy pick to impress the fans but obviously he was overrated and didn't work out. I'm to the point that whoever Josh wants, I'm good with. The media and recruiting services can't be trusted...... I trust Coach Heupel

Stetson Bennett and all bama qb’s saban era are in the same category if you minimize mistakes and score enough points the defense does the rest…between Georgia and bama although bama has had more play makers over the years. I still say the majority of those qb’s looked like NFL future hall of famers because of their defense..they went into the game with major confidence that the defense would save their ass if they messed up…they were never really put in situation they had to really demand offense because their defense scored a lot off turnovers and made big stops..it was hard to score on saban and it’s just as hard to score on Kirby both coaches defensively are masterminds of the game.

So choosing a guy that helped your team win back to back national championships is the wrong decision? Do I have that right? I hope Heupel makes a decision that wrong in the very future.
All I am saying is that Georgia was so good everywhere else those two years that they won with an inferior QB, it happens. Hell we won a Natty with one.

The pupper fans were the best during the Mark Richt era….you could always count on mark losing big prime time games…very moderate team won a couple of good games and never made it past that..they were more humble then..less barking 🤣
