Smyrna crazy thoughts on ETSU:

DL stepped up, they wreaked havoc. Thought Campbell, Utley, and Dye flashed. West was a beast and no one could run when Eason and Bailey were in. Joseph and Ross playing ends was fun to watch.

LBs are playing fast and trusting their eyes. Freshmen are great athletes. Not sure why Bolton is playing, he appears to go to the right spots but doesn’t really do much and just eats a block. Need playmakers on the field and we have plenty of talent at LB to play others.

DB - good game overall. Shouldn’t have given up a long play that got called back but they are some dawgs. Can’t wait for McCoy to be back and dominate. Boo had a much better game in coverage and tackling. Glad to see him returning punts and will be huge against good teams.

OL - another great outing. Don’t like Sanders being out again. That is worrisome. I am wondering if he even plays against UGA now. That would be a big first game.

QB - we won the trade. Aguilar is a big upgrade. Thank you Nico for your selfishness. Merk is a good athlete but not sure he is the best QB. GMac is a fluid and throws a beautiful ball. He is going to be very good for us.

RB - Bishop better stop the drops or Star is taking RB1. Good looking room. Morris is a great athlete and made some crazy cuts. I think Star and Bishop are going to have monster years and Lewis will get a lot of TDs being a bruiser by the goal line.

WR - Stepped up more and made plays. Glad to see them catching the ball well. Freshmen receivers were hits. Those dudes don’t drop a thing and looked really good.

TE - Deep room. Kitselman had a bad drop but they blocked and played well overall. Jack with his first TD. Brahme is a dude. He is big and catches well. I would be shocked if he isn’t our starter next year and balls out. Hope he plays more going forward.

Final note: Nico still sucks. Florida lost to our boy. And the Vols are still the best damn program around.
What’s up with Ethan Davis with his missing blocks and making penalties? Maybe he should be demoted to third or fourth string.

Want to go back and watch the Dline. I thought 2 sacks against an FCS team was less than stellar.
They played pretty base defense all game. I think they used the game as a glorified scrimmage to work on run fits and holding up at the point of attack. We have Georgia coming and the DL needed the reps. Even without the sack totals, they were getting home. Dye alone had to have had two QB hits. Campbell and Dye stuck out to me.

Anybody else mildly concerned the defense is leaky?

It’s athletic, but we’ve given up more points than I expected the first two weeks

Maybe that’s pace of play

Doesn’t change my outlook on the season but does make me think we may see some 45-42 shootouts down the road…
I’m mostly just ecstatic that the defense is loaded with athleticism. It’s been so long. So much talent today compared to where we’ve been. Banks will iron the other stuff out imo.

I was just about to respond to Symrna.

Feels like we are back to getting pressure with LBs, and DBs. Which is fine, but, ideally our edge rushers would have a field day against Syracuse and ETSU.

Again, we arent defined by play against lesser teams, esp with injuries to starters.

I do specifically recall games where a veteran or savvy drop back QB eats us alive on those blitzes. Again, could be BVS effecting my
memory.

Aguilar seemed to have far less passes that just sailed on him. That seems like a really good thing.

He's going to be good for a couple of chuck it and pray throws every game but better that than Nico's slow ass just standing there and holding it, not knowing what he is looking at.
Some guys, like Nico, are too afraid to make mistakes. Sometimes you have dudes and you must get them the dang ball. JA gives them that opportunity

7 points was on the offense. We scored 72- the other will have the ball a lot. I don’t expect the exact defense from last year. Just be solid.
