Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

Don't overlook what tx defense did. They played great.

If I'm tx,I look at the defensive numbers... And if you had told me before the game you'd hold OSU to those kinds of numbers... I'd believe you'd show me a tx win.
Yeah tex will probably be a bit overlooked after that game. Statistically, they were well ahead. Have to convert...and not play OSU @ OSU...they'll be a force in the SEC.

How does Texas stay at 1? How does Georgia go ahead of osu? How do we drop 1?
My guess:

Texas won statistically. OSU was pretty much ***. At TEX or neutral field and TEX wins. That's what it's saying. And PSU wasn't playing anyone impressive enough to jump them. Of course, the original margin matters a lot too. TEX may have been way ahead in the model to begin with.

If I had to guess to your last question - a #8 team would have been expected to beat that Cuse team more handily. Having us #8 was very lofty to begin with. Of course... That and/or another team simply jumped us due to their own performance. But to your original point - how are we even #9 or begin at #8? No idea, but I'll take it lol. I'd guess last year's success, returning starters + recruiting.

Again, this is a statistical model. Process/decision-driven, not binary outcome-driven, as it should be.

Couple more things:

- I think FSU is a Top 10 team with a Heisman finalist and a Top 5 defense.
- Bama can still make the playoffs.
This is true. I still hate preseason rankings for this reason.

FSU was the best looking team of the weekend... Ohio State not far behind. That FSU offense is explosive with Tommy C.

Texas will be fine.

Georgia was solid and will be a good team on both sides of the ball.

Bama will get better, but the ceiling isn't high.

Texas AM looked sloppy.

Kentucky looked like cheeks.

Florida looked okay - they will be as good as DJ plays - their preseason ranking seems a bit of a joke though.

LSU is going to be good - good schedule for them - they could find themselves in the playoffs.

Tennessee might not lose a game.

Arch played nobody in HS.

That generation got robbed of progress under Covid too.
I remember playing flag football back in the day, and our QB was the best athlete in the league. Mind you this was co-ed flag football.

There were two minutes left in the half one game and he thought it would be funny to run around in the backfield for the entire two minutes. And he did.

That was Arch Manning's high school competition.
