Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

One thing it forced was our staff had to just go get a nearly finished product at QB, instead of just raw talent they think they can mode.

Hendon Hooker was the last QB staff had that fit that bill. So hoping Joey keeps balling, would be awesome to get him drafted after the path he’s taken to get here (like Dalton Knecht for basketball)
I was thinking about DK as a possible comp yesterday...

Hopefully what this does is buy time for George and Merk to develop.

Well, reports were that he left to play with better protection and more weapons around him. So he has that going for him.

I don’t know anything about UNLV, New Mexico, or Northwestern but I imagine those are winnable games for UCLA. Someone here will know better but surely he will look better for the next few weeks until Penn State. Then it gets real. He’s probably not playing by Ohio State.

But Josh Pate told me they weren’t going to be good.
I can’t wait to hear about how “meemaw” or his “model” was wrong and not take any accountability for it. Not just for us, but his takes on Alabama and Texas all offseason

This is coming from someone who actually likes his show

There was so much hate for Elerbee this offseason and I really want those posters eating crow publicly

I’m sorry but it got so loud I had to take breaks from this website because of it

And what did he do but quiet you all quickly and thoroughly

Martinez did the same
Look at the performance of this line vs Bama's star-studded line yesterday. I know FSU has some dogs on their DL but they were Swiss cheese.

It never made sense when Pate and Cubelic were screaming ab that

All bc they didnt know any of the players they assumed they sucked. Hell even AP tried to tell Cole hey the staff loves this OL and he still wouldnt buy it. Pate prob could not name 1 of our OL but he said they werent good lol

Pate has always struck me as a guy who will admit he was wrong about something. Pretty sure he does it on his show often.

iirc he was higher on us than most of the media

OSU only gained 215 yards all day. Def not the same offense we had to face. Don't see them repeating unless they can turn on the jets again at the end.

Maybe both teams are just that good and canceled each other out, but them and TEX don't impress me 'a much.

Same for LSU and Clemson. Meh.

Feels pretty wide open right now tbh.

On Deboer... The monopoly money era of CFB is over. You simply can't waste $70 million dollars to pay somebody not to coach.

He's gonna be there another year after this one at an absolute bare minimum

Pate covers every team in the damn country.

We had reasons to think the team could be really good. The talent spike on the offensive line with new face. The RB room being three dudes instead of just one. That is a granular level of detail a guy at the national level isn't going to have.

I like his show because he doesn't just run his mouth like your Paul Finebaums of the world. He will give legitimate reasons for everything he predicts. It's a really good indicator of what the high level national overview of the team looks like.

Want to see TEs involved more going forward. Would loved to have seen Davis and Brame get a bit more action in the passing game today. Saw JVD whiff on a block on the goal line. Truly a freshman moment, if you go back and watch it. No worries, though...super excited about him and Brame.
Davis for sure. Thought he could be a real downfield threat in the right matchups. Hopefully he's healthy and able to show out soon.

Heup would have gotten him to the league. He'll be a punchline this year, and then an afterthought bit of trivia. He'd better concentrate on that degree.

I'm genuinely fighting the schadenfreude and trying to feel bad for him. But you're right, he's an adult and should have adulted. He brought this on himself.
That's me. Part of me wants to have sympathy for him. But he chose to jump in the hole his dad dug rather than manning up and doing his own thing. A series of poor choices were made. Being a follower when you play a position that requires you to lead, things don't look great for his future.
