Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

Idk how many of them contributed bigly at Bama but not the same roster. They had 40 players hit the portal (pretty sure they count walk ons and what not so the number isn’t *that* big really).

But I bet they would’ve liked to have Caleb Downs last year. And Isaiah Bond.

They also had 10 players drafted off of Saban’s last team including three 1st round picks.

In explaining why his first year wasn't stellar you're also explaining my point...

Between the portal going into last year (around 40 as mentioned), the 10 that were drafted, the 25 that hit the portal this year and the 7 drafted this past draft that's almost complete turn over of roster. Saban was an elite recruiter and I'm curious what DeBoer looks like this year and moving forward when the team is 100% his guys.

I’m not sure we’re as good as anyone now. Lining up against Ohio State showed the talent differential. It was obvious fairly quickly. It has pretty much been the same against UGA. We really haven’t been competitive against them but not many others have either.
They also were up over 30 on Oregon in the first half. Was Oregon talented? And they beat them at home. We had to play them at night at home.

They were head and shoulders better than everyone last year. And UGA is a mental block right now. Bama had a top five roster and we beat them. Had we played anyone other than OSU, we would have been in any game.

That was a looooooooonnnnnnnnnggggggggggg time ago. SEC teams started taking things more seriously after Fulmer and it won't be stopping anytime soon.
Those teams just haven’t ran through the gauntlet of poor choices such as Dooley, Butch, and Pruitt. zI am very pleased with the job Heupel has/is doing but he is not an intense recruiter. I can’t wait for Saturday night to be at Nercedes Benz Stadium. I’m getting nothing done at work.

Different QB helps that as well. And being more athletic at the WR position.
Addition by subtraction, right?

This offseason has felt interesting in that I’ve gotten more and more confident in the team as we get closer to game day. It seems like that energy is resonating from the players and coaches as well. I really like this team and our potential we have right now.

Real talk...SEC going to 9 and 1 in conference being neutral field is not a bad idea.

The main reason I don't mind is it gets players the chance to play in NFL stadiums (or that would be the neutral sites I'd want to see)

Panthers, Titans, Falcons, Bengals, Colts all pretty good options within a day's drive.

Dis^

Yeah Nico was way behind on the football knowledge part.

Ainge was told that during his first spring practice, one of the coaches said something to Nico about how their routes change according to what coverage there is and Nico was like "wait...the routes change?" He was just running around in high school.

So Nico didn't really know anything when he got here. We saw it last year in late December when he was bailing early without going through his progressions and trying to run.
First clue was the bowl game. All he did was run.

It’s a horrible idea because it takes away a home game each year despite prices increasing each year. And we all know that even if we have 6 home games instead of 7 or 8 the prices wouldn’t decrease any

Everyone who is predicting a good season for UF is putting a massive amount of faith in Lagway being a Heisman caliber QB and staying healthy. Without Lagway, the talk would be about if they make a bowl game.
Even with Lagway that should be the talk because he’s not going to stay healthy and they’ll Do great to go 7-5

I really don't get the 9-3 predictions for the Gators...by Josh Pate when you look at where he predicts their opponents too

at LSU
at Miami
vs Texas
at A&M
vs Georgia
at Ole Miss
vs Tennessee

That's just the AP top 25 teams they face... at Kentucky, vs FSU could be losses too.

Zero chance

I think Heupel has a type of QB he needs.

Definitely needs to be able to read a defense and have a strong arm combined with some mobility!

But uber athletic is not required. Fast processor and rip.

Think Gabriel and Lock.

I think Joey also fits that mold.

Really excited to see what he looks like.
