Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

I think it is impossible to out recruit those top 4 on a regular basis. A&M has oil money which certainly helps. I think the best we can hope for is to move to 5 or 6 on that list.

Bama can/will fall off once that program stops producing top results. DuBose, Franchione, Shula were all quickly average there. Storied program, but you have to have a great HC for them to be at a high level consistently.

Georgia, LSU, Florida, Texas just in talent rich states...not sure if they'll ever truly lose recruiting edge because of that.

If TN can get inside the top 6 of the SEC I think we'll be just as good as anyone.

We’re as good anyone now. It all matters how the talent spreads out. I’m not counting any team as an auto loss. That was not the case in the past.

Without taking money into consideration. Phil Fulmer use to out recruit those top 4. Alabama, Georgia, and LSU became dominant in recruiting after coaching changes( no I am not advocating for a change)

Carriage disputes are the worst thing happening in TV. For those of you that have YouTube TV like me, prepare for alternative ways to watch FOX, FS1 games on Saturday.

The dispute could carry over to NFL season too.
Yeah I have it too. So ticked off about this. Happened with me with Directv, so I cancelled and moved to YouTube Tv. Now this! Frustrating. Let me know where you find that you can watch games elsewhere.

That was a looooooooonnnnnnnnnggggggggggg time ago. SEC teams started taking things more seriously after Fulmer and it won't be stopping anytime soon.

I’m not sure we’re as good as anyone now. Lining up against Ohio State showed the talent differential. It was obvious fairly quickly. It has pretty much been the same against UGA. We really haven’t been competitive against them but not many others have either.

True but that was a generational team that came together late after michigan…got hot and smoked everyone. Nobody was beating them.

One way to get there is to let your most talented players play and thats what heupel and the staff decided to do in january. It was a whole philosophy change. We just gotta keep going. The climb to that point is still early but its been fun.

I will say this...I think Heupels eyes have been opened to the fact that he can't just make anybody into a great QB. Nico and Joe are two of the most physically gifted QBs that have been seen anywhere lately...I think Josh just thought of what he could do with all that talent if he could mold it, but some things are unmoldable...however I do think Nico was going to get better this year if he had stuck with it...he just wasn't one of those guys that immediately gets it.
Dis^

Yeah Nico was way behind on the football knowledge part.

Ainge was told that during his first spring practice, one of the coaches said something to Nico about how their routes change according to what coverage there is and Nico was like "wait...the routes change?" He was just running around in high school.

So Nico didn't really know anything when he got here. We saw it last year in late December when he was bailing early without going through his progressions and trying to run.

eh...don't think I buy that just yet.

2 years at Fresno State and did basically the same as Tedford (66.7%)
2 years at Washington and did a bit better than Peterson had in the past, but also had a weaker Pac-12 to deal with
1 year at Bama with a roster that had gone 12-2 the year before and fails to win 10 games for the first time since Saban's first year there...

This point in his career he's only proven he can move on after 2 years before **** actually gets difficult.

Idk how many of them contributed bigly at Bama but not the same roster. They had 40 players hit the portal (pretty sure they count walk ons and what not so the number isn’t *that* big really).

But I bet they would’ve liked to have Caleb Downs last year. And Isaiah Bond.

They also had 10 players drafted off of Saban’s last team including three 1st round picks.

From 2007 to 2024 Saban had only 2 recruiting classes outside the top 5 (2007 at 12th, 2018 at 6th) the rest were ranked 1st or top 3... 2020, 2022, 2024 were the only other classes that weren't ranked 1st.

I didn't say they're recruiting isn't good, I said DeBoer can't recruit like Saban...(obviously a bit of a TBD since he's working on just his 2nd class...but I just don't think DeBoer with the new NIL environment will rack up #1 classes like Saban did)
I don't think Saban could recruit like he used to nowadays. Not with teams like us and UGA at the level we are at now.

I must have missed that. Was it a leaked report? I mostly tuned out after the playoffs. I hope it’s true because continuing to play guys like injured Squirrel White over the more talented younger WRs was a mistake.
