The only issue that I have with this theory is that Heupel said that he called his own plays at UCF. Golesh was just at UCF one season as Co-OC. I find it hard to believe that Heup would turn loose his offense to a guy in the SEC that had never called plays before. There was a good article on this subject recently. Basically, it said our offensive output has changed since Golesh left a few years ago.
Golesh said he and Heupel had a unique relationship and that he called the plays without interference from Heupel. I know people won't believe this, but Golesh was the heartbeat of our offense.
It may be true that we haven't had the QB play since he left but I'll go to my grave believing if he was still our OC, we would be a much better team than we are now.
Bud Elliott said the same thingpodcast
Former FSU QB Danny Kenell on the Cover 3 podcast.
Here is what I don't have questions about. Golesh was HC level talent with his own opinion. We have 0 of that currently on the offense. Where we do have that is Banks. We know which unit everyone believes is elite last year and this. The only issue that I have with this theory is that Heupel said that he called his own plays at UCF. I bumped it earlier to get it to the top of the list. If folks would stop commenting in the Hiter thread so it could sink to the bottom like Diego Pavia's hopes and dreams of winning more than 5 games, that would be great. Thanks dickford
Just assumed it would be up top
Alas, i get bold on the Hiter thread and such like
I think this is a little myopic. As myopic as dismissing him would be. Aguilar has been at lower competition and has been reckless with the ball at times. IMO - He's a 3 star version of Tyler Bray without the proven wide recievers around him. Less arm talent, but similar running and instincts. His ceiling and floor are both lower than Bray, but a point i do agree on is - yes Heupel adds a lot to both his ceiling and floor. They either haven't watched any film of him, or they just don't understand foosball that well.
Hendon came here with far less impressive tape and this system made him into a Heisman contender.
Joey was arguably the best QB in his league. Yes he was second team in 2023 and the player of the year went to JMU's QB. JMU went 11-1....their sole loss to JOEY SWAGUILAR...AT 10-0 JMU. Joey went into their house, threw 3 tuds and 318 yards and was clutch down the stretch and won it on OT!
Yeah he's just gonna suck tho, no way he'll be able to complete passes to wide open receivers here at Tennessee...
complete straight line speed at 150lb really limits what you can do with him in the offense. Its not like he can take the ball on jet sweep or catch a hitch and make anyone miss afterwards.Undersized and doesn't have elite speed. The path to being a hyper productive receiver is very narrow at that point. I'm sure he'll have a decent season. Not worth what he was asking I'm sure.
When a team lets you walk there is a reasonBud Elliott said the same thing
they took two WR out of the portal and he said matter of factly that Squirrel wasn't impressing but they hit on the other WR so the staff wasn't too bummed
Bud originally said when they got Squirrel "why did Tennessee let him walk? and let him walk so easily?"
