Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

Who knew it would take football ticket prices for many to recognize that market inflation across many sectors is far outpacing wage increases.

Danny White is just following the numbers, and to a degree he HAS to to keep this thing afloat. We aren't getting priced out by him, the average Joe is getting priced out by wage stagnation and increased cost of living.

For everyone complaining about ticket prices, unfortunately that is the price literally of success. I remember the days buying tickets at half face value a week before the game because we were going to lose. I like winning better.
Yeah but I prob ain’t going to any games any time soon unless I stumble on something. Not planning on spending any money this year. Might do the bball game here in Nashville but that’s it. Football has priced me out. I’ll root on the Vols from my living room, make prime filets for the fam, and come out waaaaaay cheaper.

I understand why fans get upset about price increases, but the pure hatred a large portion of the fanbase has for “Danny Dimes” will always seem crazy to me. College athletics changed forever the moment NIL became a thing, and Danny is only doing what he can to keep us competitive. Winning isn’t cheap. If we start losing on a grand scale, prices will adjust some because interest will drop.

The shifting landscape of college sports also doesn’t even take into account that just every single thing is increasing in price year over year. So, regardless of success, why wouldn’t luxury items like attending a football game increase as well? You don’t have to like it, I don’t. It sucks that a family of 4 has to take out a mortgage to go to a football game. I just don’t think this is something that the evil “Danny Dimes” is doing because he hates the fans. It’s just kind of how things are in the era of NIL and inflation.
Decades of fans complaining about this and that with respect to fan experience, infrastructure, etc etc. leads to - New baseball stadium, new jumbotron, required repairs to Neyland's foundation, improved gameday atmosphere and fan comfort, the new gameday complex and entrance with TBA/Vol Navy/Neyland, etc.

Those improvements aren't cheap. We asked for them. We pay for them. It sucks.

I haven't been to a game since my senior year, largely because my increase in income over time has not kept up with the increase in ticket and travel costs lol.

Thankfully, giant TV prices are at an all-time low🤣

My biggest problem with it, is when UT announces a new apparel contract for $20 mil per year, for 10 years, one week and then follows that up with a heads up tweet about a 4% season ticket increase, the following week. I'd be disappointed if people didn't get mad.

Drone shows, fancy lights, and fireworks ain't winning football games.

Gotta love fans that want it all. They want to win at a high level, they want a brand new baseball stadium to keep Tony, they want to get the highest level of recruits to commit to us in football….the list goes on. And they want it all for the same price pre-NIL and back when Dooley was the coach and no one attend games.

I know it sucks, and I’m sure some will just call me a sheep for “Danny Dimes” but I just don’t know what the answer is when the cost of everything to compete is the increasing.

The good news is you can get like a 65” OLED TV and surround sound for dirt cheap these days and your home theater experience will likely be better than going to the game and at a fraction of the price lol.

I've said this before, but the market priced fans out not some nefarious scheme. If we suck again be sure and by your discount tix and celebrate them lol. If we get as good as we all are hoping we aren't done with the hikes either. Heck I don't know how an average family takes a week long vacation to the beach anymore either.
i can take my family of 5 to an extended weekend beach trip in a nice condo for less than i can take them to watch the Vols play a descent opponent. It doesn't add up to me...

Fair. I think it’s fine to be upset I just don’t know what people want because that money from Adidas is almost certainly going to pay players and with booster money going to Spyre as well things like facility renovations and operational expenses, things that used to be covered by booster money, has to come from somewhere else and ticket revenue is one of the only sources.
