Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

Swain:

This season is make or break for Merk. No one has talked like this is a real competition. There's a reason no one is talking about it being anyone other than Aguilar...
George ain't playing (meaning his practice and prep is there)..he needs to get bigger...if he keeps throwing with accuracy coaches won't have a choice not to play him.

So will he get more of the 1st team reps at the second scrimmage?

What odds would you out on GMac playing this year?
I agree with Swain here.

George’s chances are based on Aguilar’s health and quality of play. Merklinger doesn’t seem to have it right now.

It is telling to see @KingVFL and Swain hold 0 punches on where we are at offensively. Sky isn't falling, but the ceiling has very likely shrunk.
I share most of the concerns about the offense with KingVFL and Swain…but,

I would ease up on placing ceilings based on camp performances. If you were gonna cap the ‘98 team based on camp, they would have won 7-8 games. That offense was utterly atrocious in camp.

This is absolutely worth a listen. I made some notes.

1. Adidas will be announced within hours. Hold off gnashing teeth as you'll look silly.

2. Merk is in trouble. GMac is coming quickly and Merk should have looked a lot better in that scrimmage than he did.

3. Merk took a while to complete a pass.

4. Aguilar made the 1st 1st down, but it came due to a penalty by the defense. Defense maybe could have shut them down more and didn't have their best day.

5. GMac's camp has been alerted he needs to apply extra focus on starting this year. Getting weight on his frame etc.

6. Line and RB's looked good even against a good/great D line. 3 backs drew praise because one is banged up, but all 4 look good. Apologies missed the name of who is banged up.

7. The offense looks worse than last year at this time. The silver lining is last year's offense never really got much better maybe this one can.

8. Recievers - it's what we've all discussed, but they cited that optimistic fans tired of hearing this should consider all teams have a glaring issue they are focused on. Ours may be here and obviously QB.
9. How dumb the issues with Brazzell and Boo are. And it’s only hurting them as players and their value.

10. Actually agreed with a comment that Heupel needs to manage these incidents better and stop letting so much happen before moving on. And he puts all blame for anything that happens with the program on Heupel as he is the head man. Whether it’s truly his fault or not.

Mckee and Swain both agreed they feel better about Keys than Hiter.

And the defense was nasty. Feels like 98??

So she was minding her business and someone provoked her? Or she commented on someone’s situation and then got attacked?
For the last 99% of the brouhaha, it was the latter, to the best of my knowledge. And then every time she responded to those new insults and mockeries, the firestorm reaction doubled down. And on and on it has gone, compounding.

People have no prudential obligation to say everything they feel. It makes no difference from the point of view of prudence if "she started it" once long ago in galaxy far away.

What is the good? For our player to give his all for Tennessee. For our team to have a great locker room and to play for one another. For our team to win games. What is conducive to the good? Refraining from attacking a family member of one of our players.

No one gets to pick his or her own family. And nearly everyone responds viscerally to a family member being attacked ("rightly or wrongly). They are "one's own."

That's what's behind "your mama" jokes. Save the "your mama" jokes for Bama and Georgia. I'm not going to talk about it anymore.

Camp notes-wise? Yes.

Very similar feeling, except the’98 team knew they had playmakers if Tee could just get them the ball. I’m still wondering just how many real playmakers this offense has. Ready to hear someone is stepping up.

Good adds. He did speak on that a lot.
