Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

Aguilar has a history of throwing pics and I think that's what we're getting with him. I don't think Heupel can coach the turnovers out of him. He's got a good arm on him but he'll will throw it to anybody on the field.... offense or defense.

*The good news, Heupel isn't destroying the program like I think Pruitt was trying to do. CJH will play our best/most consistent QB this season. It'll be a lot like last season, the passing game will be inconsistent. Defense and the run game will be our greatest strengths.
what are you basing “I don’t think Heupel can coach it out of him” on? The 15 minutes of routes on air the media sees, or the first scrimmage he ever played in for the Vols?

We don’t have ANY context from the scrimmage, what situations they put him in, who he was playing with or against.

Also, his best season in a less QB friendly offense he threw 33 TDs and 10 picks. JGs best season he has 16 TDs and 8 picks.

Maybe give Heup more than a week of practice with him to determine if he can “coach it out of him”??

Edit*** I don’t mean that to sound harsh. Just think we should reserve judgement

Does Florida bite if they fire Napier? Does Oklahoma bite?

I no longer want John Gruden to coach the University of Tennessee.

I never really did but got hung up on the Grudenites side during the 2nd VN Grudenmania pandemic. Gary Patterson was my top choice after Fulmer was fired and I definitely wanted GP after the Derek Dooley Debacle. We missed the boat not hiring Patterson.

Just need a "Game Manager" at QB and let the OL and RB's do their thing...
Yes, don't care how we win games........lets just win games. Not really as worried about who the QB is, its not like Nico set the league on fire last year and we were a playoff team. Beat 2 out of the big 3 again and we should be on the path to 10 wins again and probably a playoff spot.

Me too possum, GP would have won a lot of ball games here.........I wanted fulmer to hire the Michigan guys instead of Clawson too, but tat would have only been a temporary fix.

How on earth are we overreacting to vague first scrimmage notes? Like omg, I'm pretty sure we didn't even have Staley, Brazzell or Matthews out there.

The QB's struggled a week into practice with a bunch of freshman and walk on receivers against one of the best defenses in the country....when the defense always wins the first scrimmage.

The real question is, did anyone miss any wide open deep balls? Did they throw it 10 yards over their head?

Nope.....I turned 50 this year and I'm set in my ways. Do not try and talk sense to me.

I've determined that Aguilar and Guaratano are equally loose with the football. I will have to be proven different during the season.

Because he threw a pick 6 in practice like every QB ever?

None of these QB's will approach the abhorrent play of JG.

it's completely obvious to this dissenter of Kelsey Pope that they are being extremely conservative with the WR corps. Absolutely a miss not getting 1 body out of the porthole.

but alas, the season will go on. Have to feel encouraged by Plew, and the TE room. Also, undoubtedly a walk on will emerge.

The issue hasnt been can a WR get open. Its can we hit them.

Disappointing on the QBs for sure...does George M have a legit shot at starting? Also was really hoping to hear something on Jordan Ross :/
If we're splitting hairs to pick a starter,go with the most upside, which is George IMO.

I think the size thing is overblown. Kid is tall and has a huge wingspan. He's never gonna look like Joe Milton. I remember a kid with the same build by the name of Tyler Bray come in and play just fine as a freshman.

Cancel the season. Use Neyland for concerts.

We made the playoffs with Bryce Young off of ‘Wish’ (We’re gonna be fine).
Fun fact. My sister went to the Michael Jackson concert with her friend and friends mom. When they went back to the moms car it was gone. Lots of hot Monte Carlos back when.

I really don't care about a deep ball. I would rather the QB be accurate on slant routes and 15 yard curl routes.
I understand what you mean. However, if Nico hits 1 deep ball against Arkansas last year we are playing Texas for the SEC championship and a potential first round bye/first round home game. And the deep ball accuracy is what made ‘22 offense special.

I bring this up every year and this feels like a good time.

James Pearce was barely mentioned the summer/fall before he broke out. You have to take everything the beats say with a grain of salt because they really do not know what they’re looking at.

The deep ball is what has been missing from the offense.
