Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

It's a little misleading of an argument on their part though. Revenue sharing usually only happens in situations where the company is actually in the black. If revenue is nowhere near covering the costs of the business, it's hard for employees to argue they should get a larger share of the revenue.

"Fair" would be to shutter the league entirely because it's a bad business. In reality, it's a charity that the NBA supports with the profits from their other business that actually does make money. It would be weird in any other situation for charity beneficiaries to tell their benefactors that they should give more money, but that's pretty much what they're doing here.

So you're right they're not demanding 9 figure salaries like NBA players, but charity beneficiaries really shouldn't be demanding anything. They exist because of the generosity of the people to whom they are making demands. I'd argue that encouraging girls sports is a worthy cause, so I hope the NBA continues to support that charity; but I have a hard time saying it isn't fair that they're not sharing revenue like a profitable league.
I knew I shouldn't have jumped in. I really don't care THAT much. I was just clarifying what they are arguing because people misunderstand it. Even Dave Portnoy has a recent quote about their pay. Apparently the numbers have increased a bunch the last few years.

It took the NBA 40 years to turn positive revenue and/or profit. It finally really started in the 80's. Maybe now with a $2.2 billion (not sure why someone would pay that much) media deal, the WNBA will do it.

I was mostly just expounding on your statements, not necessarily disagreeing with them.

The new deal will roughly double their revenue from 200 million to 400 million. The 2.2B is over 11 years. That should in theory bring them into the black.

So I'm sure some of that will go to their salaries, as it should. But I still don't believe revenue sharing is really appropriate. It's a lazy argument (by them, not you) to try to increase their salaries, in my opinion. The models that insanely profitable leagues use has nothing to do with unprofitable/barely profitable ones. It takes over 50% of the wnba new revenue just to cover fixed costs. Whereas the NBA, NFL, MLB, etc... Cover their fixed costs with like 5% of their revenue. It's just such a totally different set of circumstances that using them as their basis is crazy to me. Not just apples to oranges, but apples to ferraris.

"Even Dave Portnoy" lol. The same guy who literally ranted a week before this quote saying the exact opposite regarding the Colbert show losing money and should be cancelled.

Then rants about different rules for the WNBA that also currently doesn't turn a profit. The definition of clownish or maybe woke?

I don't really care. I thought it was interesting from him since I went down that rabbit hole for a bit.

Opinions get stated on here sometimes without the research. He's woke for one opinion about a women's sports league? Like I said, I should use better restraint....and I don't even care about the league.

FTR I was not rehashing pay scale in WNBA I was simply asking why they don't just play full time overseas. You'd think if it was so lucrative they'd bypass WNBA altogether. I know many play both, but I never hear overseas women complaining about WNBA. All kinds of men would happily play overseas for cash.

Anyone got any Plantar Fasciitis recommendations? Just now experiencing this. Right heel feels like someone is stabbing me with a knife in the mornings. Wears off as the day goes.

Inserts the best?
Hokas for work and Crocs around the house.

*I had the same problem. I'd get up through the night to go to the bathroom or get up for work in the morning and couldn't hardly walk. I felt like I had needles in both feet. My knees were bothering me too. I thought both brands were the dumbest shoes ever but my feet feel great now. I wear the Hoka Kaha Low. They're leather, waterproof, and have excellent support.
