Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

You got me, but for Heupel to fire a coach, it would have to be for a criminal offense or morally degenerate behavior....that became public. Short of that, nope. Happened to him and he just won't do it to someone else.
A lot of built in excuses this year with the QB uncertainty and WR depth. But man... If the offense continues to feel predictable and figured out this year, I really hope he brings in a real OC next year.

the WR thing could have been improved.
Yeah for sure. But probably not by Joey Halzle personally. Which is what he will say if the passing game flounders for a third consecutive year.

Which BTW is not some personal attack on Halzle. You can hire your brother or your barber to be OC when you are putting up points. If things don't work out for the third consecutive year, mini-me needs to go so we can get some fresh ideas in here.

Heup controls the offense. Halze sits up there and tells him what he sees.

They did add the pistol this offseason, so we'll see how that helps. Supposed to help when teams drop 8 against us.

Yeah that seems to be the case. Which doesn't sound like a high bar to me. Especially when he is your QB coach and you've had (in this hypothetical) three different QBs play poorly in three years.

If it doesn't work this year, I'd like to see him bring someone into that role who is saying "I can add XYZ to your offense". You can't afford a second version of yourself in the OC spot if it isn't working.

But going back to the original point, the man does not fire people.

From listening to everyone I think the overall analysis is:

Joey is better on run than the other guys (those on the run throws are the core of Ainge positive talk - IMO)

Merk has been more accurate staying still from some reports.

Neither Joey nor Merk have pulled away from one another and many routes on air have not looked great. That includes passes not always looking crisp, but only a small part of practice has been observed. (Basillio negativity)

WR is as thin as 1 ply toilet paper and the guys with experience have been out more than anyone would like.

TE's look very strong.

So yeah it can all be true. Lean on defense, RB, and TE. One of these QB's needs to pull away, under pressure (poise) that is likely Joey. Higher ceiling is likely Merk.

Where Aguilar excelled on Wednesday was throwing it deep. This was the first time we have actually seen the quarterbacks air it out some. The talk about Aguilar coming in was he throws the ball well down the field (20+ yards). He looked good doing it today. Of the four deep balls we saw him throw, three were completed. -E.Cain

How the hell are these fragile cream puffs getting hurt right now when they are doing nothing but drills?...this puny 💩 gets on my freaking nerves.

And yes...I know sometimes freak things happen where guys tear their pecs, or achilles etc etc etc in freak accidents...but come on man 🤦‍♂️

The ones sitting out are the ones that have a starting job locked up. They don’t need to see anything from those guys. Get the younger guys reps.

“quarterback order remained Jake Merklinger, Joey Aguilar and George MacIntyre. Merklinger was the sharpest and most consistent on this particular day, and MacIntyre ended the period with a nice deep ball. Overall this was one of the cleanest routes-on-air periods we’ve seen in camp outside of an Amari Jefferson drop.”

The routes on our sessions was once again a good one. This is great progress just in terms of the sloppiness we saw over the weekend in the period. The past two days have been pretty solid. The quarterback rotation flipped back to Joey Aguilar first and Jake Merklinger (second) today, with freshman George MacIntyre repping thir

Love the differing reports lol
