Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

Happy Wednesday

AUGUST 6, 2025: For those whose lives have been unusually hectic, the flurry is about over. Circumstances will once again be more in line with routine. You have been stretched to the max, and the ground you gained will not be lost. Take a deep breath and rest when you can. This is a time of recuperation. Matthew 11:28-30 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.

I

have… for several years. Milton was already qb1 5 practiced in, and Hooker/hb/maurer were all above him here seniority wise! If JA was any better than Merk, he would’ve been 1st up more times than just one by now, so imo Merk is at least neck and neck with ja
Yes I see what you’re saying. But those weren’t CJH QB’s. Milton was brought in by this staff the others by cornbread. By all accounts Milton was their guy. They were gonna roll with him and force feed him until his injury.

For sure... In high school. That's certainly not a thing in the NFL. It's a business and everyone who walks through the door understands that at a deep and fundamental level.

So, is college football closer to the NFL or high school?
College is closer to high school from a locker room and player perspective. Have to remember you are dealing with 18-22 year olds. Kids clique up, have favorites and friends. You and I understand this but it takes most kids a lot longer to mature and understand this.

I'm optimistic too, but I'll still hope our receivers can stay healthy enough to build some chemistry and success. If we had a veteran group of receivers or more experience in the room I'd have no questions about offense. For me it's more a sum of the parts question than do we have talent question. We absolutely do have talent at QB and reciever. Looking forward to seeing it click and them succeed.
This year's receivers are last year's db's. All the hand wringing will prove to be a complete waste of time.

It’s not an unpopular opinion. It’s the truth. And I don’t think the coaches think it was managed well now either. I think Pope knows he has to recruit some elite talent and fix the room quick or he is in trouble.
Heupel will be fired before he lets a coach go. Just isn't in him.

I honestly haven't seen evidence of our Coach being a QB whisperer since Hooker. That's been surprising.
Heuple needs a qb who is smart in football sense not necessarily a physical freak. The common thread with Nico and Joe was that they were football stupid and that doesn't show out until they get in a game. Heup had to dumb and slow down things for both Joe and Nico. Heup does well with lesser gifted athletically but smart qbs, if he gets a smart athlete you get Hooker.

Only on VN is insider status simultaneously a reason to believe what someone is saying, AND a reason NOT to believe what they're saying lol. It's almost like people will just believe whatever they want to believe.

Can't really recall a single time we've gotten any relevant insight from Ainge, Swain, Kyler Kerbyson... Any of the VFL media guys who get to see more of practice. On the other hand, VQ breaks news and puts up correct predictions routinely. So I think history is on my side with this one, pointless psy-ops from the coaching staff not withstanding.
Pundits are like rock and roll and professional wrestling. They don't make any difference and don't put food on the table it's just entertainment. They don't know any more than anybody else, they just bite the heads off bats to get ratings.

If case someone does grab the Vandy punk’s helmet after he is down and slam his head into the ground a couple of times, Bama did that last year with no penalty. Kicked the ball out of play when the official was spotting it. Etc. Birmingham vividly bent over backwards to exempt Bama from ejections.

Isn’t like the entire O staff on expiring contracts this year? Thought I heard that on a pod. Or made it up. Also a possibility.
You got me, but for Heupel to fire a coach, it would have to be for a criminal offense or morally degenerate behavior....that became public. Short of that, nope. Happened to him and he just won't do it to someone else.

I think Heup manages that well. "We agreed to a contract with you so we will honor that and give you time to prove yourself. If it's not working after that, we let contract expire."

Leading by example with coaches and the kids see that. Your word means something.

might have already been discussed, but any info on how Amari Jefferson is doing? We wanted this kid bad, and now he's here...
