Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

Aug. 3, 1987:

Joe Niekro's on the mound in Anaheim, pitching for the Twins against the Angels. He throws a slider that breaks the laws of physics. When plate umpire Tim Tschida visits the mound to have a look, an emery board flies out of Niekro's pocket. Niekro's also carrying a small piece of sandpaper "contoured to fit a finger," according to second-base ump Steve Palermo.

Niekro's ejected and suspended for 10 days. "The guy was so blatant," said Palermo. "It was like a guy walking down the street carrying a bottle of booze during Prohibition." Niekro denied any wrongdoing, arguing that as a knuckleballer, he needed the emery board to file his fingernails. And the sandpaper? "Sometimes I sweat a lot, and the emery board gets wet," he explained. "And I'll also use the paper for small blisters."

We had tickets to see Billy Joel play with Stevie Nicks this fall, but, alas, his illness struck. Steely Dan was one of my fave bands back in college days. Call me Kid Charlemagne. 😂 We saw them open for the Eagles 2 years ago. Nothing left of the original band(s) except Donald Fagen, but I loved seeing him. Walter Becker would have still been there when you saw them. The Eagles were amazing.

Was Vince Gill playing with The Eagles?

Amazing. As long as Donald or Michael are there, it's going to be great.

What's wild to me is how humble, even thinking he didn't belong, Michael Mcdonald appears to be in the documentary. And yet he's a major cornerstone of the entire genre.

Aguilar has been here for 3 practices so far…
Fair enough.

I think of routes on air as transferrable, but to your point maybe our routes and WR speed is not something he's accustomed to.

Still hoping someone...anyone...runs away with the job. I wouldn't say this is a heavyweight battle, so hopefully someone can really separate themselves from the field in the next month.

A bit surprised G-Mac isn't more in the conversation as well, but that's tough as a true freshman.

If thats the case then we have taken a major step backward and will be in for a let down season.
I get the perception, similar to playing WV, Pitt...

But they were 10-3 and 2-0 vs ranked opponents last year.

Cuse is solid. Imo it does go into the last 10 minutes, but we also win by double digits and pull away. No heart attack moments in the last couple mins.

Idk. But an under thrown deep ball for once??

Whoever it was is my guy
Gaspipe underthrew one once.

You’d rather over throw than under throw. Theyre probably taught that way. At the end of the day though, you do want a well thrown ball. The more accurate the deep ball, the better the whole offense.
