Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

Jordan Thomas won’t play. I wish he could. But he isn’t. Elijah is gone. Caleb is still here and our rushers will be very good. Only thing on defense that is a worry is depth at Inside DL and depth at DB. But starters are very stout
Thomas medically retired didn’t he?

I was making fun of the guy because everything he said was wrong

I’ve been building this BCR chart for a few years now, and was able to correctly predict we’d cross 50% this year based on how last year’s class finished. With the new BCR numbers released yesterday, I’ve projected 2026 to hit around 59%.

I originally pulled the data using Python from the 247 Composite rankings going back to 2005, by adjusting the year in the URL (https://247sports.com/season/2025-football/compositeteamrankings/).

For each class, I counted the 4- and 5-star commits, then used a 4-year weighted average with typical roster turnover rates to estimate roster BCR.

I also scaled the numbers to match official BCR figures where available (2020, 2021, 2024, 2025).

Be cautious with anything before 2010 since the data gets a little fuzzy, but the trend since then is accurate.

TLDR: CJH is doing a damn good job recruiting, and right now it’s very likely the highest BCR we’ve had since the early 2000s.
Good stuff!

You should check out CollegeFootballData.com if you are looking for more data at any point. They have loads of free data and some interesting blog posts on CFB data. I know they have data on recruiting but not sure how deep it gets into the ratings of individual players or more geared towards class rankings from a high level. They also have support for multiple languages through their libraries/sdks they’ve developed. I use their python library and it’s simple to get whatever data I want that they have. The charts builder that they have built into the website is also fun for anyone to play with for more simple analysis.

I like our depth at interior d-line. We trot out a 5 star freshman in our 3rd rotation. And if it gets really bad I can see Tyre West sliding inside, and he would be very good there

Inside look at UGA recruiting meetings:

Recruiting Coordinator: “Okay, it’s time to start laying the ground work on John Smith. He’s set to be the number 1 player in the country next year.”

Kirby: “Hey Billy, fire up the reckless driving database on John Smith. Has he had any driving citations or speeding tickets? What did his coaches and teammates say about his driving?”

Billy: “No, hes a great kid, never been in trouble behind the wheel before. Coach said he’s a good driver and teammates actually say they prefer him to drive because he’s such a good driver. ”

Kirby: “Meh”

Recruiting Coordinator: “Meh? He’s the #1 player in the nation.”

Kirby: “yeah, but he’s a 1 star in the reckless driving database. Not even a speeding ticket? Not on my team. Next.”
