Can't disagree with any of that but Tom T Hall, his boxed set is awesome. What about Vern Gosdin and Mel McDaniel........makes me think of when I was a kid spending summers in Cleveland with my mammaw. She loved Vern Gosdin.Country music in the late 70s/early 80s was the pinnacle for that genre. I don't know anyone that doesn't know/love at least a few songs from that era.
I was just thinking best country singers ever. I'm not that big on Tom T Hall but one I do like is Marty Robbins, mainly for his Gunfighter Ballads albums. I also like Tracy Lawrence, John Anderson, Travis Tritt, Buck Owens, Earl Thomas Conley, and TG Sheppard.
Most of the country music I listen to is mainly from the "Hee Haw" era.
Yeah no kidding, had a friend in high school, kind of, that took his dads copy of that and johnny reb........needless to say, we didn't stay friends long. Good grief those are awful.View attachment 757105
That was a 1 time only listen. Even when I was in high school, that was way too much. David Allen Coe would make NWA blush.
True story: I also met Marty Stuart and his lovely wife in an Aquarium store in Antioch. My daughter was young and with me and she was singing in the store and he came up to us and struck up a conversation. I didn't go up to him. She was too young to have any idea who they were but he said she had a lovely singing voice which was really cool of him to say. You meet a lot of people living in Nashville.Marty Stuart
Also Jerry Reed
Met Dierks at a concert, then all of a sudden Neal Mccoy comes over and opens a beer. Just stands back there talking to us forever. Totally down to earth, and kind.True story: I also met Marty Stuart and his lovely wife in an Aquarium store in Antioch. Ha ha. Neal McCoy. Haven't thought of that guy in a long time ain't no doubt about it. I love Pam Tillis.Met Dierks at a concert, then all of a sudden Neal Mccoy comes over and opens a beer. Just stands back there talking to us forever. Totally down to earth, and kind.
Same for Pam Tillis, she is such a lady.
Vern Gosdin was good too. And I'll add Ronnie Milsap, Mickey Gilley, and Clint Black to 80s country singers that were enjoyable and memorable. I've got a Ronnie Milsap CD in my work van right now. When you think about it, there were a bunch of good ones during that timeCan't disagree with any of that but Tom T Hall, his boxed set is awesome. Absolutely, Eddie Raven was another one too......everybody was good in the 80s but KT Oslin.Vern Gosdin was good too.
