Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

Willie, Waylon, Johnny, Kris, Hank, Merle, and Glen.

Kris and Glen are not like the others. 👎

Drop them 2 and add George Jones and Conway Twitty and you've got it right (assuming it's Hank Jr) and if you're talking strictly 70s/80s country music legends.

*I'm not a fan of Glen Campbell or Kris Kristopherson. I don't dislike them but there's no way they belong in that list.

Top 10 best male country artists ever:
George Strait
Merle Haggard
Hank Williams Sr
Johnny Cash
Alan Jackson
George Jones
Waylon Jennings
Willie Nelson
Hank Williams Jr
Randy Travis (debatable)

Waylon Jennings and George Jones (the original POSSUM) are my personal favorites but that list is how I would rank them. If we're adding women, I'd drop Randy Travis and put Dolly Parton in 5th.

I also like Conway Twitty, Dwight Yoakum, Don Williams, and John Conlee but they're outside the top 10.

If Keith Whitley would have lived longer, I think he would have been top 5. He was amazing.

Xlookup is GOAT'd

To LLvol - just move to the other workbook once you're in parameters 2 and 3 and choose the column. Excel will do the rest. No need to type it out.

Random, but other tips - 2 things I've noticed that have been recently added are 1) Focus Cell. Go to View > Focus Cell and it will highlight rows and columns of your selected cell without needing a macro. 2) Excel finally has a "paste as values" hotkey - Ctrl + Shift + V.

Follow for more n̶u̶d̶e̶s̶ tips.
What about sourcing multiple databases from different source locations like different networks?

I can't believe I've been using vlookup like a caveman for so long. And triple clicking to get paste as values.
Yeah Vlookup was always a nuisance, but also only went left to right. Xlookup can go either direction. Also (imo) easier for diagonal lookups vs the old index/match solution.

Met Conway Twitty as a kid. We went to his Twitty City and we jumped a fence to take a photo and saw someone coming so we scrambled to get back over the other side of the fence. It was Conway Twitty. He hopped the fence and took a photo with us. Great memory.

Not sure about the exact scenario, but powerquery might be your best solution if typical lookups can't handle it. Powerquery can be very powerful, especially when consolidating many (similarly formatted) workbooks into one. It's a user-friendly ETL solution for Excel users.

Hugely underused tool in Excel.

That's a will wade list too possum. I like it. Only reason I have Kris up there is because of all the songs he wrote, such a great song writer........ and also the Highwaymen. Only name we've missed was Tom T Hall. That's my favorite.
Early 80s had David Frizzell and Shelly West too. I think John Conlee, as good as he was, is still underrated, so is Don Williams.

Unfortunately. It’s no Krystals.
True story. My son and his family were staying in Nashville a couple of years ago. Anytime he’s near a White Castle, he always gets a bag of them. Anyway, my DIL and granddaughter went to a concert and left my son in the hotel room with the bag full of White Castles. Big mistake. They came back after he devoured all of them and long story short. He backed up the toilet and couldn’t leave the bathroom to go ask the front desk for a plunger. My poor DIL had to go get it while my granddaughter was gagging and clean up since my son was still ‘feeling’ the effects of his gorge. 😂. My granddaughter called me the next day to complain about the smell they had to sleep with all night.

He still loves White Castles

You are leaving out three greats that definitely belong in the top ten imo:
Marty Robbins
Sonny James
Jim Reeves

Waylon is goat. Twitty is great

Dwight Yoakam is universally on of the biggest pricks, period. Same for Junior Brown.

Love Possum but he was a drunk.

Jon Anderson👀Neil Mccoy.

Country music in the late 70s/early 80s was the pinnacle for that genre. I don't know anyone that doesn't know/love at least a few songs from that era.

I was just thinking best male country singers ever. I'm not that big on Tom T Hall but one I do like is Marty Robbins, mainly for his Gunfighter Ballads albums. I also like Tracy Lawrence, John Anderson, Travis Tritt, Buck Owens, Earl Thomas Conley, and TG Sheppard.

Most of the country music I listen to is mainly from the "Hee Haw" era.
