Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

What about the big wins? In ‘24 held Bama to 17 (their 2nd lowest scoring game of the season), OU to 15, FL to 17 (tied for their worst scoring output for the season). What about holding other SEC teams to below their scoring averages?

Weird to pick out 5 bad losses spanning 2 seasons.

Who are the “elite” DCs? Based on your criteria of having bad games, not Oregon and their D staff (steamrolled by OSU in playoff). Not OSU - now PSU’s DC - bc they gave up 32!! to Oregon in regular season loss to Oregon. Not Kirby and his defensive prowess (gave up 41 to Bama, 31 to MSU, 42 to GT in ‘24). Not TX (gave up 30 to UGa @ home, 31 to ASU, 28 to OSU in ‘24).
OU and UF were combined 6-10 in the sec. Look obviously some people think Banks is elite. I do not. I don’t like bend but don’t break then play at a high level in the red zone like we are capable. I don’t want a 6 minute drive to end up with a fg, an already tired defense and cold offense on the bench. I want to force the issue all over the field and get the ball back asap, even if we get burned at times.
Calls between the 20’s need improving and you don’t hear people say that about elite coaches. If you don’t think we need improvement there you should go back and rewatch. I am ocd and a film junkie so 3 days after a game I’ve watched, rewound and rewatched plays and different players several times. I cited specific play calls on specific downs in games as well as completion % and 3rd down conv % to back up my opinion.
It’s fine to disagree and evidently elite can mean different things to different people.
I’m not insecure enough to tell you your opinion is invalid though. Thats for others.

There used to be a highlight video of this game set to the song "It's a beautiful." I loved it, but it seems to have disappeared (like a lot of our video do, weirdly.) If you have a copy or a link that I haved missed, please post it.

Cal was ranked 9th and favored, with the Vols at a lowly 23rd. Cal had a RB named Marshawn Lynch (if you've ever heard of him) and started his Heisman campaing before this season opener in our (at that time) 109,000+ Neyland Stadium. It was a shellacking!

Wow. They also had Desean Jackson. That's a nasty set of offensive talent and we boatraced them with ease.

now define creep or real fast..that is my issue
In the rule book is says sudden move to provoke movement. Lunges attempting to make on jump. I agree it sucks, but looking at the rule it does not stop lineman from moving along the front and linebackers and corners can still fake runs just don’t get all the way to the LOS. I can’t believe coaches didn’t raise cain over this ruling though. Leaves it open for refs to screw up big time. And good grief why do they also try to limit defenses. GBO

Nothing insecure about stating a point is invalid when it is. You hate Banks. That’s cool. I did at one time as well. But I now recognize we have an elite DC. You can think he isn’t if you like. Like I said, the numbers and stats say you are wrong.

Does it literally sat “sudden move to invoke movement”? that would be clear as mud..

you gotta link? tia.

Stats can be twisted to whatever point one wants to make and I dont like bend but don’t break.

Also......
There’s nothing invalid about pointing out 75% completion rate and 60% 3rd down conversions given up in 5 big losses isn’t elite.
I could care less about holding Chattanooga or Kennesaw St down and climbing up the points allowed ladder.

The irony is strong with this one.

I’m not even saying he’s elite. Just that your overall basis for why he isn’t elite is a bit silly. Picking out a few bad games while ignoring good ones.

Unless I’m mistaken the entire goal of the defense is to keep the other team from scoring points.

So I ask again, who are elite DCs in college football?

We need to boycott this man. I don't trust him and don't trust anything he's trying to do. SEC will never look the same after the smoke settles from his rampage.

To be fair his job isn’t to preserve the SEC the way it is now. It’s to make decisions that will the make the conference the most money possible while being the premier athletic conference.

I’d be shocked if the member schools didn’t love this guy tbh. Big ole fat checks all around.

To be fair, he's gonna NASCAR the whole thing 😂

You agree with me that he isn’t elite but don’t like my basis? Talk about something silly to argue about. “I agree with you but don’t agree with how you got there.”
I dont know who I’d call elite right now but it’s not Big Game Banks.
