You can't really think he took that job for this and not the money. Have you seen the contract it took to sign him?

I absolutely can and do think that.

Washington was gonna pay him $9.4M/yr. At Bama he gets avg $10.4M/yr. With all the added pressure, expectations, the Saban shadow, etc etc. You really think he made that decision for $1M/yr?

Nico is a really good QB, dude has all the tangibles. He may not be a first round draft pick, and certainly may not even make the NFL draft. But to say Rivals etc got their eval wrong? Dude has everything you want, save most important qualities - leadership and between ears.

Arch is still learning. Worst thing that ever happened to Arch from a professional standpoint is to have last name Manning.
Nico is about as mid as mid gets and it is because he doesn't have the one "tangible" you need most...the ability to see the field and understand what is going on.

He has good running ability and a powerful arm...but he can't hit the broad sign of a barn when he does finally see an open reciever...so he lacks accuracy as well, so that makes TWO things a "really good" QB has to have that he totally lacks

1000% the entire recruiting industry got that QB class wrong. Go look at the 5* QBs.

His Washington contract wasn't 90% guaranteed. He gets 90% of what's remaining on this one if he doesn't win a single additional game. Right now that's nearly 70 million dollars.

They still have the No. 2 most talented roster in the nation according to the 247 Talent composite and have 5 5*s committed for 2026. Bama was always going to be a bit slower to move here because, as pointed out, they've already been paying players for years and there's probably a strong sense that they don't "need" to invest as heavily in NIL as other programs when they believe the brand/NFL pipeline sells itself.

Yes that’s the power of having Jimmy Sexton as an agent. Still 100% believe DeBoer took the job to win a NC.

Exactly. He is still the same QB he was as a true freshman against Iowa in the bowl game. Joe Milton with better running ability.

The fact that he wasn’t able to get better at reading defenses or moving through progressions in 3 years means he probably never will. He also still rifles passes in on drags and other underneath routes that are easier to catch and run with if you take a little off of it.

Even with the high misses, I don’t think Joey made one bad read and he’s only been in the offense a few months.

He was just in the 50% range in High School as well.

I figure it that was true he'd be trying to win one. Did you even watch Alabama play the other night?

😂 I did and that falls on him ultimately of course. His remaining tenure will be interesting. Curious to see how long it lasts.

I’m of the opinion they have focused on acquiring talent without regard for how that talent fits into the culture. Bc that’s currently a program with weak culture. Can he band-aid it for another season so the wheels don’t fall off?

Yeah....that's really working out great for Bama..
I'm here for it 😅😅

But Bama's schadenfreude aside, the BCR is undefeated. The top 3 BCR teams this season have won 9 of the last 14 titles.

The other 5 were 53% or better (albeit a cheat Michigan team...🤮).

We're now 54%. We should be happy. Cheaters aside, it tells me you can pull it off with elite offense and QB (FSU '13, Clemson x 2, LSU 2019).

I'm here for it. Joey and Joey, let's do it.

Money ain't everything, and to these big headed arrogant HCs I guarantee that DeBoer doesn't want to be remembered as the mehdiocre hack that drove Bama into the hell of mehdiocrity.

He was going to get paid 9.5 mil to stay in Washington, and probably could have stayed there for 20 years and left there a beloved legend....Alabama didn't beat them by much, and now he won't get another job in the 9 mil range after this disaster....so the buyout crap ain't as big a thing as you think it is.

Deboer took that job because he honestly believed he could break the streak of coaches following legends, and Washington wasn't BIG DEAL enough for him...his hubris has cost him what coud have been a great legacy.

Hubris 👏👏👏

Spot-on!! The ego is bigger than the brain.

Most of the guys at Bama right now are taking discounts over what they could make elsewhere because of Bama's reputation. This puts the staff in a precarious position when it comes to divvying out playing time and discipline. AJ McCarron said today this same thing. Guys are taking discounts to play for Bama right now, but that's not going to last. I don't think they are concerning themselves too much with culture fit. I think they are taking who they can get. Obviously that's not great for culture.
