Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

I would put money on it that in the end it will be just like last season.

4 SEC teams
4 Big Ten teams
1 Big 12
1 Group of 5 team
1 ACC team

Team number 12 will be a extra ACC or Big 12 team...
Well they better put the terrible teams in the first round and not give them a bye so they can get their azzes handed to them.

I would argue that the hiring of Sunbelt Billy indicates this isn’t true.
You might be right. In the past, with all that talent in Florida, the 'Gators' were a top team to pull coaches. Maybe NIL is changing that? I'd love to see them down for years to come. Now, we really need to beat em' in Gainseville.

I'm sure Ron Zook (first time HC), Will Muschamp (first time HC), & Jim McElwain were also the guys they wanted out the gate...

Urban Meyer & Sunbelt Billy at least had 4 good years at lower tier spots showing they could win. Dan Mullen was always a "what if" cause the dude was only winning 60% at Miss State...so everyone just wondered could he elevate with better recruiting and the answer was no. Once year 3 hit and it was all on his back the nose diving was epic.

Hot takes for this coming weekend for fun:

- Vols beat UGA (UGA 6.5 pt fav)

- Vandy beats USCe (Cocks 7.5 pt fav)

- FL beats LSU (least likely to happen - LSU 9.5 pt fav)

- Miami spanks USF (Miami big 16.5-18 pt fav so not that hot of a take)
Our line is down to -4 already

As in years past, Georgia has look pretty pedestrian in their first couple of games but come out and look like a completely different team when they play us or another SEC opponent. I personally feel that Kirby prepares his team for these big games, but doesn't really show anything during the lead up games. They know they can win without really trying, so they don't really try. The play calling was all just for show, we will see a completely different offense next week. They might show the same screen looks, but then throw the out of seam play for a TD. This will be a fight and we need to be our best to win.
Kirby is one of the worst qb managers I have ever seen. He runs off his best qbs and wins in spite of it because of defense and a dominant running game. I think those days are over.

Hope Boo starts from here on out. He’s better in coverage and tackling. JMac is not bad but he got beat a few times and we need Boos athleticism.
JMac looked way better than Boo the first game. One time he got beat Saturday, his helmet had gotten damaged the play before. If you go back and watch it, he's asking to come out of the game to fix it...guess the sideline didn’t see him, and the very next play, as he's holding his helmet on, he got beat. Still pretty good coverage, but the WR made a nice play.

But, yeah, I agree about Boo, though. We need his speed and athleticism on the field, as many plays as we can get. We need to get the ball in his hands more.

Saturday has some real interesting games...

Arkansas at (17) Ole Miss, been curious if the hogs are for real or feasting on cupcakes. Taylen Green is playing to be a 1st rounder though and looks great.
Florida at (3) LSU, Gators gonna play better after that upset loss or do they fold like cheap chairs?
Vandy at (11) South Carolina finally these two can crushers will play a team with a pulse can they both lose? I guess Beamer getting humbled would be the best outcome...but can Diego get smacked around a whole lot?

Man...SEC could be wide open this year games I had as likely Ls I'm not so sure now and games I had as Ws I'm second guessing...

Try to take off your Pantone 151 C colored glasses and answer me this.

Devin Hester is an NFL Hall of Famer with these stats:

How close is Cordarrelle Patterson to the HOF with these stats?

9 of those 48 TDs for Patterson are kick returns, which is the NFL record. He also has a SB ring, which Hester never won.
I think he'll make it because of the record he owns and how hard it'll be to break it with this new kick off. But I think he'll be old and grey when it happens

Be one of those last year on the ballot situations. I agree..

NFL is 2nd hardest HOF to be voted into behind Baseball of course. NBA puts everyone that has a pulse in...

I’d love to see Boo out there for kickoffs. You don’t get many chances to return but give him the opportunity

I think the VQ guys are extremely fair. I don't want them to act like a regular idiot on a message board, I want them to tell the truth when things are good and bad. And I think that's what they do.
VQ was definitely higher on us than the national media in the offseason

The biggest argument for why they may not put him in (which I think they should) is Brian Mitchell.

Brian Mitchell is the career leader in punt returns, punt return yards, kick returns, and kick return yards and 2nd all-time in all purpose yards (behind Jerry Rice) also 3rd in PR TDs with 9 and in a tie at 10th all time with 4 KR TDs...if ever a returner should be in the HOF it is Brian Mitchell and he's not. Also won a SB ring in '91 with the Redskins.

I don't know why Devin is in and Brian isn't, but all 3 deserve to be there imo just off what they did as returners.

Most interesting game, besides ours of course, is USF/Miami. I'm really curious if Golesh's team can continue this historic streak of upsets.

USF is going to be the best Group of 5 team this year IF (big if here) Byrum Brown stays 100% healthy. He's a NFL level talent at QB with great size.

4 years in college and he only played more than 6 games once the previous 3 years (in 2023)...he had a pretty great season that year though going for over 4k total yards with 37 total TDs in Alex's first year as HC.

So if he stays healthy all year Miami might be the last team on their schedule that can beat them.

I think UGA is that team that always improves throughout the season (more than most teams seemingly). The last few years they’ve looked very vulnerable early, and even lower-tier SEC teams (like UK last year) have managed to keep things close in the first couple of conference games. But by the time November rolls around, Georgia tends to have the steamroller engines fired up and they start bulldozing teams, usually right around when we play them lol. Maybe you're right though and they just do a VERY good job of getting up for big games but are vulnerable to the lower tiered teams sneaking up on them.

2021: Close against Clemson (10–3), trailed South Carolina early, then steamrolled by midseason.
2022: Kent State gave them trouble (39–22), Missouri nearly beat them (26–22), but by November they were full force again.
2023: Slow starts against Auburn and South Carolina, then unstoppable looking down the stretch by the time TN played them.
2024: This was the outlier where they seemed to have extreme swings in the performance and they should have definitely lost to GT. I think us playing them the game after losing to OM defenitely hurt us.
