I know I'm probably not the first one to realize this, but I was just thinking about our USC win.

I think probably just about all of us would rather have a win over FL or UGA, just because of the history of the rivalries, and the recent strength of both teams. Though USC has been stronger recently, they still don't carry that same level of respect from me at least.

Anyways, out of the three teams, USC was clearly better than UGA and FL this year, whether you want to blame that on injuries, or whatever... we still beat the better team. :hi:

USC was one of only a couple of teams with 3 wins over BCS top 15 opponents this year. Bama and Ohio State had zero. USC rarely dominates anyone, but they are a very good team. That was a great win for us.

Beating Spurrier counts for a whole hell of a lot too. Watching him implode with the time out debacle was literally priceless.

I agree, Nick. We take care of Vandy and I would have been a happy happy boy this offseason.

Of course I'd also be getting ready to head to the Music City Bowl. Oh well.

Yes USC is definitely a very good team. And very underrated by the vast majority...that was a really nice win for us.

Unrealistic. I might agree in 2015, but not next year. We will have too much youth and inexperience. Our fans need to give these absolutist expectations a rest. We aren't the Tennessee of the 1990's right now. We are a sub-500 program that has spent 1 week in the top 25 in the last 6 years. You don't get over that with one recruiting class, no matter how good it is. I can tell you that you certainly don't get over it by firing head coaches and assistant coaches every year when they don't beat XYZ team by the score you want them too.

Good post.

I want to see progression. Improvement as the season goes on with the players gaining confidence, focus and understanding of the system.

On the staff side I expect a bit more. If Jake stays or with his replacement I want to see the playbook opened up and the use of spread staples in the passing game - slants, digs, crossings, and check downs. In the run game I expect less jets and over faked/slow developing draw type plays. Slow developing stuff, unless it is play action passing, rarely works in the SEC. The D's are too quick and football smart to fall for it. Run the zone read better with counters, traps, and draws. Work in the read option. Get the RB out in space and dump the ball out to him to make a play on the edge. Do it all at the speed this O is designed to go and it will do wonders for the offense. Especially if Fergie is handling it.

On D I expect them to play their assignment (eye discipline) and tackle better. I am very weary of watching undisciplined, crappy defense. I expect the secondary to actually play like an SEC secondary. Sutton is the only guy that brought it week by week - a true freshman. Kudos to Martinez on his development. Randolph gets a small pass due to injury, but he needs to get better as well. With Maggitt back and Weatherd coming with all of the big time freshmen talent at LB I expect the LB's to be significantly better if AJ comes back and improves. The D-line will start slower due to youth and system inexperience, but I expect the talent to take over, especially if Lambert and Williams can contribute. So I expect Jancek to open the D playbook more as it relates to the LB's and coverages.
