I think DY showed he should have been getting Josh Smith's minutes. He caught some tough balls.

Dobbs made some positive steps. He has to continue to improve his accuracy but they let him play last night and I think he looked good. It also seemed like he wasn't 100% healthy.

If I had to take a wild stab at it, I would look for this scenario to unfold.

1. Ferguson
2. Worley
3. Dobbs (intent to redshirt)
4. Peterman to transfer.

Of course, I haven't seen Ferguson throw a pass, so this is pure speculation.

Good post.

Huge fan of getting Dobbs the RS year he needed this year.

Spring could be fun.

The OL will have its bumps.

Outside of Neal, we return every skill player on the roster so yes I expect improvement.

I see. You're right. It's not like we ran for more yards than we passed for or anything.

Losing our best RB and OL should be no big deal.

This is on Azzanni. I question his evaluations of receivers ready to play. With the apparent log jam talent that seems to be lining up next year this seems like it might not be such an issue.

On a related note that TD by Croom was a nice play. He got his hand on the ball by reaching before the DB and kept the play alive. Much more active in the catch than the call made it seem.

Not sure if it has been previously mentioned, but I think it is note worthy that the staff made an immediate correction this week in regard to the "run out the clock offense" we displayed against Vanderbilt last week.

It looked like we had an entirely new package in for "under center plays" that worked the entire play clock down before snapping when we got the ball back late in the 4th and needed a couple first downs to ice it (we ultimately had to punt). This is not a complex strategy adjustment by the staff by any means, but it does show us that they are constantly evaluating not only the players, but also their own coaching strategies to try and help us win. That is a very positive sign, and a clear improvement between the vanderbilt game and last night.

Smith plays outside. DY is a slot. Pig and JJ were taking DYs minutes. When Croom went down we had to start putting pig and JJ outside thus DY got playing time.

I'm sure our HFC and coordinators will probably just sit around all offseason and not learn from this season and have a better plan for in-game calls next year, with better knowledge of our personnel and their abilities. We should just go ahead and fire them.

Dumb.

So many people saying that crap are the same ones who, when people said teams like Missouri and Oregon had similar-rated talent, responded: "yeah but they've recruited to their system and they've had 3+ years with their system."

But yeah let's fire our coaches. Again.

Thank you.

Over 50 coaches in 4 years. FIFTY.

Absolutely lunacy to want coaches axed one year in.

No improvement next year, ok I'll listen.

I'd add it would ding recruiting fairly hard as well. CBJ is supposed to ice guys he's built strong working relationships with but continue selling family?

I am not saying it would have been as simple as this and I know Croom wants to split out, but I can't help but wonder how production would have looked if Croom had moved over TE and Smith was just sat down.

My cool story bro for the UK game...

Was sitting down in the hotel lobby this morning in Lexington, and there was a family of UK fans with a young son decked out in UK gear. He was trying to convince the table of UT fans next to him that Kentucky won and Tennessee lost. Finally his mom commented that since Kentucky had scored a touchdown her son believed that Kentucky had indeed won the game.

Kid has no clue what's in store for him as a Kentucky football fan.

Relax bruh. That's the closest thing they can get to winning. Kid had a point. :salute:

Appreciate it man. IMO, it will be just like this year. Our 2014 schedule doesn't do us any favors. I think we'll be fighting for 5-6 wins. A completely new OL and DL and not to mention a new kicker and punter. It will be tough. The QB situation is up in the air. VQ says that Ferguson basically has the most talent and he has yet to throw 1 pass in the college game.

We expect/need the incoming Jucos to be immediate contributors. I honestly do think we will be better on defense next year even though we are losing 5 DL and about 5 LBs. The offense will be a wait and see approach to me. Surely, North, Lane, and Pig will progress. But the 5 new faces on the OL will be the biggest hurdle.

Welcome to VN.

thanks for the shoutout. i think we get 7 or 8 wins next year.

QB play will be better - more time in the system, S&C, maturity
RB play will be about the same or slightly better - we lose Neal, but we get Pickett and Hurd. More S&C for Lane
TE play will be about the same - although if Helm gets some play, it could help our receiver corps
WR play will improve drastically - All receivers return and will have more time in the system and S&C. Guys that took a redshirt this year will also be available (like Jenkins and Harris). We get good receivers in like Pearson, Creamer, Wharton, Booth and hopefully Malone
OLine play - everyone else seems to think we will have a huge dropoff, I dont. We didnt have great Oline play this year. I think itll be about the same, or a slight drop. We do get some good guys in, like Blair and Thomas. Its a possibility that Tiny comes back.
FB play - i wish

DLine play will be about the same or slightly better - once again, people seem to think we will have a huge dropoff, and I dont. Our Dline was pretty lackluster this year. We lose some guys like Smith, Miller and McCullers. But Vereen will be a sophomore and we get some great guys in. JUCOs like Lambert and Williams. Dline will be faster.
LB play will be better - possibility that AJ comes back. Maggitt will be healthy. JUCO Weatherd comes in. Amazing freshmen coming in (Bates, Bryant, Johnson, Mouhon). I think our LB corps will be faster, which is what we need. More JRM
DB play will be better - all of our starters return. more time in S&C. Each guy will be more mature. Riyahd will be healthy. We get good guys in (Payne, Kelly, McDowell, Moseley, Gaulden)

Kicking - not sure
Returning will be better - we will have better return guys next year.

Overall, I think we will be better. We will have faster guys playing, and I think that what we need.

EDIT: forgot to add, it helps that the teams we play are losing their stars. almost every starting QB in the SEC will be gone next year

Last night I made like the best comment ever regarding the bubba - barn game, and it got ignored. My efforts were wasted :(

As I have been saying speed can make up for some lack of knowledge sometimes

Coaching carousel should start soon. In the SEC, I see Franklin leaving (more $, fans don't show up), Muschamp safe and Saban and Sumlin stay.

Outside SEC, I don't think USC keeps Orgeron and Brown stays at Texas. Petrino will leave WKU. I think Bo Pelini is gone too.

i think we could expect reasonably to get 7 next year. i agree 6 is a must. My way too early prediction:

Conference schedule: Georgia (L), Florida (W), Ole Miss (L), Bama (L), Carolina (L), Kentucky (W), Missouri (W), Vandy (W)

NConf: Utah State (W), Arky State (W), Oklahoma (W), Chattanooga (W)

all in all I think it'll be a better Tennessee team and an easier schedule... our schedule this year was maybe a perfect storm of top 10 teams.

Every single other sec east team will be worse next year except Florida and maybe mizzou. No reason we can't win 7.

This is pure comedy gold!!!

Watch the Bama fans cry as the Cow College fans laugh in their faces.

I would argue that the entire staff deserves 3 years unless we absolutely tank next year. It's imperative that we maintain some sort of consistency for a few years, both for recruiting and scheme purposes.

I'll take 6 wins next year, but wouldn't be surprised if we got 5. We are getting talent in the 2014 class, but we still won't have depth because we are losing so many.

Agree totally and would add that JRM will help with the linebacker corp upgrade as well.

Good analysis. I agree with the comments on both lines in particular. We will find out if Mahoney is a good coach or not next season. Which leads to another category - coaching - assuming they all come back.

It should not have taken 12 games to figure out that DY is your most explosive receiver. North is the best receiver. But DY's experience combined with his quick bursts and obvious good hands should lead an OC to call at least a handful of slants and digs to him a game. Injury aside - in the games he was available and played as a returner, he was not used as a receiver until yesterday. That's a game winning type decision they did not make earlier. That is just one of a dozen I could point out that have bothered me.

So for coaching - will they develop the talent into the right positions and design the schemes around the best talent's abilities while calling the plays that reflect those actions on both sides of the ball? I hope and believe they will see where they can improve as a coaching unit and make the necessary changes. I like this staff and want them to succeed.
